Dr. Alvin Howell Crawford, MD

Dr Crawford ruined my life. At 13 he performed a fusion on my spine and had me fitted for a brace too soon after surgery. It was too lose allowing movement of my spine, vertebrae to break, and the rod to slip. When I complained about something being wrong j was told it was all in my head. That lasted for weeks before they finally did x rays and discovered what happened. They put me on immediate bedrest and had me back in operating room again 2 days later. With UK n a year the rod started slipping again and j had it removed. My life has never been the same. Due to his actions and the rod slipping I have permenant nerve damage and barely able to walk. I have had 3 spinal surgeries since and a spinal stimulator had to be placed to help block pain. I've been through years of biofeedback back, physical therapy, pain management where I have to have monthly injections just to keep pain at a tolerable level. I no longer have cartilage at the base of my spine allowing my spine to rub against my… pelvis causing more damage, spinal stenosis, bilateral ridicuopathy among numerous other problems I didnt have when I started seeing Crawford. Before seeing him I was a normal kid. It wasnt until my 6th grade physical it was determined I had scoliosis.i had to file disability and barely able to walk now.

I am currently a 50 year woman who at the age of 10 was diagnosed with Lupus and Slipping Epiphysis at the same time. Dr. Crawford was my doctor. He was a great bedside doctor but very strict with his interns. I was the second person to have my the ball on top of my leg bone welded together instead of a rod being put into the bone. To this day, outside of just getting old, the surgery is still a great success! He is a great man who has all of my respect??

Dr Crawford is one of, if not the world's, leading expert in neurofibromatosis (NF) in children and has the Spine Center at Cincinatti Children's hospital named after him.He is truly a genius and has been a leader in this field for decades. Every day, he does about five consults for people around the world. You would be in the best of hands to have him as your child's surgeon, expecially if they have NF.

I know this man has accomplished a lot and has been at the top of his game for many, many years. But having said that, it doesn't give him the license to treat people the way that he does. He treated me and my child like the dirt on the bottom of his shoes. He was rude, uncaring didn't listen to our issues or concerns. He didn't take the time to do anything. He wrote us off within minutes of meeting us the first time. We never came back.

Dr. Crawford performed back surgery on our daughter in Sept. 2010. He is an amazing surgeon! Our daughter's problem was resolved beyond satisfaction. Also, his spine nurses are wonderfully caring and patient.
