Amanda Justine Hutchinson, MD

In December 2022, Dr. Amanda Hutchinson returned to City of Hope in Atlanta, Georgia. As a Family Medicine Physician in the Continuity of Care Clinic at City of Hope Atlanta, Dr. Hutchinson collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of cancer experts to provide supportive care and symptom management for patients in various stages of function and ability. She’s experienced in treating chronic medical conditions, such as diabetes and hypertension, and delivering personalized care for patients undergoing cancer treatment.In her late 20s, while living in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Dr. Hutchinson was treated for stage 1 colon cancer. “It gave me firsthand experience on what patients go through: the weight of hearing you have cancer, the anxiety of more invasive testing and surgery, the financial surprises, and learning that, even as a doctor, I didn’t know some very important facts about my family history.” she says. “It’s impacted how I practice medicine, with an emphasis on preventive care …based on family histories.”Board certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Hutchinson earned her medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, Tennessee, then began an obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga in Chattanooga, Tennessee, before realizing family medicine was a better fit. Several months after completing a family medicine residency from the same university, in 2013, Dr. Hutchinson joined City of Hope as a Hospitalist at its hospital in Newnan, Georgia, where she met her husband, who worked nearby.At the time, the hospital’s outpatient internal medicine clinic was in its infancy and seemed like the perfect fit. She was especially drawn to the patient-centric, Mother Standard® of care model at City of Hope, where quality is stressed over quantity.When her husband pursued a new career opportunity with Allegiant Air in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dr. Hutchinson relocated in 2018, then returned to Atlanta in 2020, when her husband began working with Delta. Before returning to City of Hope Atlanta in 2022, Dr. Hutchinson served the Newnan community as a primary care physician. Today, she continues to serve the community through her role as a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians. She’s also given a number of presentations on topics like palliative and survivorship care, the pharmacology of pain management and gestational diabetes.Outside of City of Hope, Dr. Hutchinson loves to travel, go hiking and enjoy the outdoors with her husband and beagle. She recently returned from a trip to Denmark, Amsterdam, and Germany, where she drove on the Autobahn. She’s looking forward to the next adventure.
