Dr. Amy Beth Hessler, DO

Dr. Hessler is knowledgeable yet I felt she was uninvested in my care. She seemed to speak to me in a manner that made me feel diminutive, telling me that my trauma could have contributed to my pathology, yet didn't really say anything factual or medical to explain the abnormalities in my brain MRI. She said she sees them all the time in patients with headaches, which I relayed that I do not have. The presence of these WMH are rare in patients under 45. I am 30. Not to mention, it could be reckless to ignore considering this information exists that includes cardiovascular concerns. Overall, given the understanding she had of Sprovato esketamine treatments I was not informed of any risks or benefits to neurological system, which is inhaled directly into the same place my abnormalities are located. Huge liability if it is the wrong diagnosis. I met every criteria for intracranial hypertension including new symptoms, (received no examination), but I feel that she used her bias to say… that trauma was the underlying cause, instead of using all of her resources to rule out actual physiological disorders. Quoting Dr. Hessler, "Neurology is exclusionary." If I am wrong, I will own that. But I didn't even leave with a treatment plan other than see a therapist and physical therapy; come back in 6 months. Truly upsetting. Overall, I feel Dr. Hessler to be aggressive, unapproachable, and pedantic. I feel that she is checked out or uninvested in patient care and put no effort in to explain what she meant using slanted language then kept repeating, "I'm glad we had that talk." Sure wish I knew what talk she was talking about. She umbrella "diagnosed" me with Functional Neurological Disorder, which encompasses non-epileptic seizures. I shared that I had had neurological events in the past but she didn't ask me any key indicators to differentiate between NES, such as open eyes or closed eyes, which would be a pretty important factor contributing to a diagnosis. I wouldn't know though, because the I always have to request notes sent to the portal. Dr. Hessler also did not prepare for my visit, did not look in her own system for files I went out of my way to make sure were available, and I waited for 45 min for my follow up with no further examination done after receiving MRIs containing abnormalities. I also felt like she threw a little ableism my way by saying unempathetically and carelessly saying "I'm sure you don't want to be using a rollator at 30." I know she didn't mean to be an ablist sounding person but bedside lacked charm for sure. Overall, Not likely to recommend your clinic. Also recommend changing the colors of your walls as it it overwhelming and feels inappropriate for your setting and caliber of care. -Update: The manager reached out to me and offered to move me to another doctor there, alongside PAs, a month out.

Hessler is a terrible neurologist, I waited over two hours to be seen. Once I did see her, I told her I had been having seizures , she said "no you haven't" since then my epilepsy has gotten much worse. She did nothing, no follow ups, she is useless and shouldn't be allowed to practice medicine.
