Dr. Amy Chavinson Shapiro, MD

Dr. Shapiro was cold, dismissive and failed to give proper medical care. I was having issues with a new birth control prescribed by another doctor. I made the appointment with Dr. Shapiro due to my own doctor not having availability and severe symptom concerns. During the appointment, she dismissed my symptoms, failed to listen and ultimately failed to determine a solution or suggestion for new medication. Answer - just stop it, I left feeling unheard and wanted to cry with frustration. I would never go back to see this doctor.

During the appointment, she dismissed my symptoms, failed to listen and ultimately failed to determine a solution or suggestion for new medication. Answer - just stop it, which isn't a reasonable solution due to other concerns. I left feeling unheard and wanted to cry with frustration. I would never go back to see this doctor.

I don't normally leave reviews, but I don't want anyone else to have this experience if they don't have to. My first-time appointment with Dr. Shapiro was by far the worst experience I've ever had with any doctor ever, and after having kids and being in my 50s, I have been to more than I can count. From the moment she walked in, the doctor was abrasive, almost openly hostile, during the appointment, which was a routine first-time exam with some general questions about perimenopause. I had five symptoms and wanted to know if they were normal. The exam itself took maybe two minutes, but then she lectured me for several minutes on why supplements were a bad idea (I hadn't asked) and said she didn't have time to discuss 10 years of medical issues during the appointment. Since I was asking about general symptoms from the last year, I don't know why she said 10 years, but she pointedly mentioned it at least three times. I have no confidence in this doctor's care or concern for her patients… and wouldn't go back, even if it meant paying out of pocket to go anywhere else; it was truly a Twilight Zone experience.

Horrible, very bad and no good! Bedside manner of a Brillo pad. she only gets patients by the extreme shortage of ob/gyn 's in the area. I would wager this photo is over 20yrs older than her. She's at least in her 50s. She would be doing the field a favor by retiring.

Rarely did she look at me. She would breeze in, quickly rattle of info with a sigh, randomly walk out of the room in the middle of talking and then completely humiliated me. I had an abnormal pap. She was PAINED to explain to me what was going on. She diagnosed me with HPV and when I started to tear up a little she put her hand up and stated in such a mean tone “you do you know you got this, right?” To which I cried even harder. She said I needed a procedure then walked out. No words of encouragement, no explanation of the procedure...she just left. I know two other people who saw her who report the same care that I received. I don’t know how anyone goes back to her. Looking back now, I would have said some more direct words to advocate for myself.

Dr. Shapiro is rude and condescending. I will never be seeing her again.

Dr. Shapiro is great. Lovely offices and I have always felt comfortable and in good hands.

I made an appointment with Dr. Shapiro because my husband and I wanted to begin trying for a baby. She told me I should lose weight before getting pregnant because I will hate the way I look after the baby comes. I was pretty appalled by her bed side manner and switched practices. Well here I am 6 months pregnant and according to my new doctor I have only gained a total of 15lbslbs and that I'm doing great with my weight gain. I would not recommend Dr. Shapiro to anyone unless you want to feel bad about yourself.

I have visited several gynecologists over the years and until seeing Dr. Shapiro, they were all supportive and excellent. Dr. Shapiro is not only cold and rude, but also I do not trust her medical advice. She is incredibly condescending, patronizing and forceful with her opinion. I myself am a medical student, so I feel that I know more about modern medicine than the average patient. Nevertheless, she persisted in treating me as if I was an ignorant child incapable of making sound decisions when it came to my own wellness and body. Gynecologists are supposed to support women in living healthy fulfilled lives, not belittle them for minor details that stray from Western medicine. I can say without a doubt that I am never stepping foot in that office again, and I urge anyone and everyone reading this to do the same.
