Dr. Amy Stockhausen, MD

This doctor does not believe in having an equal partnership between parent/patient and doctor. She is fantastically rude when she is not falsely sweet. That is a facade that can easily be broken. She asked me if I had a concern about my child, I mentioned a new one and she spent what felt like 10 minutes lecturing the two of us, even on the basics of parenting. It was rude and condescending. And it had no basis on facts she was given. Just floored at this woman. She gave half an apology as she left and that too was offensive. This isn't the only appointment with her that I have felt really upset. Don't go to her. What I learned was don't share concerns.

If i could give a big fat -0 i would! Went in for my sons 2 year checkup and JUST BECAUSE he was a bit crabby and crying cause of unfamiliar faces along with unfamiliar place the dr Amy Stockhausen had the audacity to tell me and my husband that my son is NOT normal for his age and we should be really concerned. JUST BECAUSE he hasn't learn sentences in English, DOES NOT mean he is not normal for his age! He knows his ABCS shapes AND 123s. How dare she says that to any parent. I will no longer take my child to see this rude person and will most DEFINITELY NOT recommend her AT ALL to any of my friends, family or anyone!

My wife called me practically crying after an appointment with Dr. Stockhausen for our third daughter who is 4 months. Stockhausen isn’t our normal doctor and we only saw her because our normal doctor is on vacation. My wife had a concerns about my daughters hearing and the doctor laughed at her and completely dismissed her concerns. The doctor consistently belittled my wife and talked down to her. She consistently reminded my wife she was the doctor and what she was saying is supported by science and numerous studies. Unless you raise your child exactly the way this doctor believes you should raise them, I would stay away.

Dr. really didn't listen to what was going on; either that or she doesn't have the ability to apply the knowledge she has. She's nice enough but she kind of talks down to you. I don't think she would have prescribed the tests or medications she did if she had really paid attention to the symptoms. Felt like she was grasping at straws for the next step. Finally had to switch dr.s as we were going nowhere and things weren't getting better.

Took my child to see Dr. Stockhausen. She had a persistent dry cough-not mucus, clean lungs. I figured it was viral but she couldn't go to school as the coughing did not stop for more than 1 minute (I timed it on several occasions) unless she was sleeping. Unfortunately she couldn't fall asleep unless she was past the point of exhaustion at 3am. In the first appointment Dr. Stockhausen said it was allergy related; "mold in the air" and she prescribed an albuterol inhaler even though I told her there had been little success with this when my daughter had previously had bronchitis. The exit papers I received did diagnose my daughter with acute bronchitis but that isn't what we were told. The inhaler didn't work. I called back the next day and she prescribed Benzonatate-a pearle pill non narcotic cough medicine. I had told her in the office visit that cough medicine with codeine had been ineffective in treating this cough but she apparently thought a non-narcotic would work over… that. When this didn't work, I called back the next day to ask if it was supposed to take time to work because it had not had any effect whatsoever. She then prescribed a z-pak (antibiotic) and steroids-prednisone 50mg-1 dose/day for 5 days. The last time my daughter was sick it took two prescriptions of the z-pak to knock it out and in the past, the steroids she was given were on a gradient scale that decreased with time but it didn't matter because after 3 days of this combination (over the weekend), nothing improved. I called back and was told I needed to bring my daughter back in--actually tried to see a different doctor but my only other option was a dr. whom we hadn't seen before and I didn't want to repeat the above process. My daughter's normal dr. was overloaded with 24 patients that day or so I was told after not wanting to reschedule with Dr. Stockhausen. So against my better judgment, I scheduled the appointment with Dr. Stockhausen. This time, she again said that everything was clear and when I suggested that maybe it was stress related, she jumped all over that and said that the antibiotic cleared up what little mucus there had been and that she felt my daughter had irritated her voice box with the coughing and that the continued coughing created more irritation and that it was a vicious cycle so there was really nothing she could help us with. She said it was possible that my daughter had broken a blood vessel in her voice box or developed a callus from the coughing. She told my daughter to write things down and try not to talk. She further suggested "Sucrets" cough drops with 'Litocaine' or 'tetracaine' to numb the throat. When I repeated back to her "litocaine and what was the other--tetracaine?", she told me the Sucrets had "one of the 'caines'"; she wasn't sure which one but something that would numb the throat. Sucrets actually has Dyclonine hydrochloride; the Chloraseptic lonzenges I also got had Benzocaine (probably similar to the Benzonatate pearles). These made my daughter's tongue numb but did nothing for her throat nor her coughing. Dr. Stockhausen also recommended honey and/or fresh squeezed lemon juice to soothe the throat and Chamomile tea to help her sleep. Tried them all day today and they have had no affect. At the end Dr. Stockhausen, said if this didn't work, the next step would be to see an ear, nose and throat dr. and don't you know, HFM just hired a new one so he would be easy to get in to see since his schedule wouldn't have filled up yet. She would be happy to make a referral....of course, she had milked this for all it was worth--got that one last appointment fee in....as if I would trust anyone she would refer? Please.
