Dr. Ananthi Rathinam, MD

HORRIBLE BEDSIDE MANNER: I took my son who has an anxiety disorder to see Dr. Rathinam. I made sure to note on the medical forms that he has anxiety. I don't think she even read the forms because she didn't realize that until about 5 minutes into the exam. He was nervous about meeting a new doctor so was on edge the moment she entered the room. She asked him his name and when he didn't answer, asked him a couple times more loudly, "WHAT IS YOUR NAME?" He kept getting more anxious. Instead of comforting him, she saw that he was holding a gaming console and launched straight into that he needs to go cold turkey on screen time and that that was what was causing his anxiety. I had brought it with us because some of the sensory coping tools he usually has at home would be difficult to bring to a doctor's office. She made me feel shamed for bringing the gaming console. She then talked "at" me about what tests he'll need all while he kept getting more and more anxious. Then, out of the blue… she wheeled her stool over to him and reached for his arm to begin to examine him. No, "Ok, I'd like to exam you now. Will you come sit on the examination table so I can take your pulse?" SOMETHING would have been helpful! He pulled away and started shrieking. We wrapped up the appointment and did everything we could to get out of the office. The waiting room was full of families. My son was so embarrassed. You'd think that a seasoned PEDIATRIC neurologist would have experience on how to interact with an anxious child but Dr. Rathinam showed no sensitivity to the situation. If you have a child with any special needs, I do NOT recommend bringing them to this doctor. I will NEVER bring my son back to her office again.

My babies seizures are very well controlled under the care of Dr. Rathinam. The entire staff is very caring and follows up efficiently with the needed paper works , referrals etc..

I was a patient of Dr. Rathinam's for nearly 8 years when I was mailed a letter that stated I was no longer a patient of Kids Neuro Care due to my age being over 21. When I was accepted as a patient of this private practice I was just shy of turning 21, so this letter makes little sense and I had also just visited the office a week prior for my 3 month follow up. It would've been more professional to bring this up in person, than to mail out a letter given how long my relationship had been with this practice and their physicians. Not to mention, Dr. Rathinam left me under the impression that if I were to go three years without experiencing a grand mal seizure that I could wean off my medication regiment and go back to my lifestyle before the diagnoses. After seeing two different neurologists they informed me that I will never be able to stop taking my medications and Dr. Rathinam should've modified my medication when I received back MANY abnormal EEGs. This practice has required me to… visit every 3 months for prescription refills when the doctor knows I'll be on this medication for the rest of my life. After nearly 8 years I felt like a number and mislead, not like a person taken care of.

The doctor was efficient and very supportive and guided us well thru the process of diagnosis of our child with rare neurological disorder of cri-du -chat syndrome . Thank you and your staff.

My son was evaluated at different university hospitals in Minnsota for droopy eyes and had work up for mitochondrial diseases and no treatment for few yrs. Finally when we moved last month to florida and saw Dr. Rathinam, he has the right diagnosis of myasthenia and was started on mestinon. I can't thank her enough for the improvement in his school work and confidence .Excellent and friendly team.

I have been calling all day to make an appointment . got someone at 10: 45 he said call back in a hour computers were down. I have been calling since and I get no answer. How can you run a neuro place for kids and not answer when the child needs to be seen.

This doctor is not supportive of home education and does not have an understanding of autism. My 6-year-old, with autism, went to see her because he is experiencing severe visual impairments and has been for as long as he can remember but had a perfect ophthalmological exam. 1. She did not believe him. (He would not talk to her directly.) 2. She said any vision problems were caused because I let him use my iPad. (I didn't even get to explain that I had just given it to him when we got into her office and he uses it only in such circumstances.) 3. She said I should put him in public school where they could challenge him more and he would have more social interaction. (She knows nothing about how we school or our home life.) And what does that have to do with his visual and auditory impairments? Because she is a specialist in migraines, I expected her to at least discuss the bad headaches he always gets whenever we drive anymore. That was ignored. She may be fine for epilepsy… and migraine care, but I would not recommend you see her for any other reason, and I would caution you to find another doctor with experience in autistic behaviors if you do have those other health issues.

my child has mitochondrial disorder with seizures and he is doing very well with his seizure control under the guidance of the doctor and staff . They also helped me with getting the ancillary services which helps his overall performance and health.

My daughter was having headaches and pressure like you wouldnt believe now one year late she has very little headaches. Her staff is wonderful especially her resident kathleen she is awesome and will make a great Dr someday! The only bad thing is you have to repeatedly call for test results!

DESAPOINTING, TO SAY THE LEASTThe staff just don't know what they are doing. It took me 2 months, several phone calls and one visit to their office to finally get the results of my son. Calling this Lady several Times and no responed what so ever waiting 5 Days, 10 Days, 20 Days and no Responed,,, why ,, why all that is this a doctor is this a person who realy care about Kids,,, absolutly not,, stay away from this person ( ANANTHI RATHINAM ) and this office, no help no one realy care.I am following up to the end of this. Our kids are not a game. or a toy.
