Dr. Andrea Joan Rapkin, MD

This is not about cold bedside manner, but about unwarranted hostility, misdiagnosing me multiple times, and withholding appropriate diagnoses, treatments and referrals. She yelled at me because she was running late. She rushed me through an appointment I had waited months for because she had overbooked herself. Her research is out to prove female chronic pelvic pain sufferers have mindbody issues and just need to relax and meditate, despite the gender bias in medicine and demonstrable lack of knowledge in medicine about real physiological causes of pelvic pain conditions. She doesn’t understand up to date research on primary provoked vestibulodynia. She doesn’t use a vulvoscope, or proper lighting/magnification when warranted. She doesn’t seem aware of vulvovaginal skin conditions like the lichens. She misdiagnosed me with a bartholin’s gland cyst when even I knew from Dr. Google that was impossible. She missed the diagnosis of my main issue- a relatively standard presentation… of pudendal neuralgia. She denied me available appropriate treatment, refused to refer me to others who could help, and left me hopeless with nothing despite how many diagnostic/treatment options are out there. She set me back almost a year in getting treatment. She would only prescribe proven ineffective off-label anti-seizure med creams, and she tried to force me into her “generalized vulvodynia pain complex” box when I have never had generalized vulvodynia nor any of the comorbid conditions she repeatedly asked me if I had.

Dr. Rapkin has been helping me with a long-term illness no other doctor could diagnose or figure out. In fact, they were all making it WORSE. She has been such a great help for the well-being of my health. I can live freely without worrying or feeling symptoms. She is so incredibly knowledgable, responds quickly to your emails, and truly cares about getitng to the bottom of things. Not to mention she has great style. Highly recommend her if you're able to get an appointment!

I had a condition that was undiagnosed for 8 years. I went to several gynecologists and they found nothing that would explain the incredible burning and pain on my right labia. The gynecologist sent me to a pain management doctors and they put me on morphine. lots of morphine! They also did several epidurals. When I went to Dr. Rapkin she took her time and answered all of my questions. During a manual exam she duplicated the pain I had and I finally had a name for it, pudendal neuralgia. After this I was started on meds that treated this and almost stopped all pain meds. She changed my life and I will be grateful for the rest of my life!

After reading reviews on this site and others, I was rather hesitant to meet with Dr. Rapkin, however I was pleasantly surprised. The staff was nice, I did not wait long, Dr. Rapkin listened to everything I had to say (which took awhile) and made a diagnosis that I think is accurate. She is very knowledgeable. I was meeting with her for a second opinion and I have done a great deal of research on my own. In addition to a medical condition, I also met with her to address bio-identical HR and I again like what she had to say and what she prescribed. Can't comment on her follow up as I only met with her today. Hope this is helpful.

After taking a day off from my work and got babysitter for my kids, they told me that they made a mistake about time and told me to come back another day. I told them I was a out of town patient and finally convinced her to take me. They also forgot to send me package of paper work for new patient, so I was trying to write as much as I can but Dr. Rankin came in to tell me don't even bother. She need to leave in 30 min since she had a weekly meeting with her students. While I was trying to describe my situation as fast as I can, but she quickly cut me off to tell me to continue what I had been doing and left. I w
