Dr. Andrew Yenphu Yew, MD

Dr Yew performed a laminectomy and spinal fusion on me in January. Two months later I can say the results of the surgery were spectacular (5 years of progressively worsening discomfort and disability erased!) and my recovery has been as expected. I can see how Dr Yew's manner could be off-putting: he's extremely smart and self confident and speaks quickly and very self-confidently. He was very clear about the risks of surgery and possible benefits, but it did seem very rehearsed (I'm sure he's explained this hundreds of times, plus he needs to make sure he covers all the possible complications). At the end of this initial discussion, though, he asked if I had questions and patiently waited while I digested what I'd heard and gave thoughtful and reasonable responses to my followup questions. I came away from our discussions feeling confident in his ability, and the results have matched my expectations

Initial visit was somewhat helpful. Same issue recurred again and they took weeks to schedule the diagnostics despite severe pain. In following appt my pain and sensation levels were written completely inaccurately to what was reported, i was insulted about my body and things that I have been trying very hard to work on and have developed an eating disorder because of, and left in tears feeling completely blown off. This is the second appointment with this doctor at which this has happened. I am not asking for addictive medications, or crazy procedures- I’m asking to figure out what’s wrong and if the department or diagnostic needs to be changed then to be sent to the appropriate diagnostics. I’m tired of being in pain and not being able to do basic things because of this issue. The whole way the situation was handled seems dangerous for patient care

He took his time explaining the pros and cons, and the risk involved. Given his level of professionalism, experience, and the entire team at Lahey I never had a second thought about it. now after 20 years of pain I am free!
