Dr. Stuart Howard Hershman, MD

Dr. Hershman saw me to urgently recommend a neck cervical lamineplasty and laminectomy based on my MRI and symptoms on my right shoulder and hands. I didn't have neck pain or issues on the left. His staff including Linda and himself are extremely hard to get a hold of. Right after the surgery I had extreme nerve shooting nerve pain on my left side and numbness on my left arm and hand. After the surgery my neck pain and left pain and numbness never disappeared, he never properly answered my questions and never explained properly what is happening on my left side. Surgery didin't help any of the other symptoms that he said it would such as balance issues and symptoms on the righgt shoulder, arm and hand numbness. So far, this person's behaviour doesn't fit ethical medical doctor practices, He didn't even care to see me for post op surgery despite my requests to see him urgently. I finally asked him to refer me to another neurosurgeon or orthopedic surgeon yet without any response, Stay… away from this person and practice at all cost. I will be submitting and filing official complaint to my insurance as well as the MGH.

He is an amazing surgeon and an incredibly caring doctor. He diagnosed my problem right away (other doctors couldn't!!) and showed me what was wrong on my MRI. I felt better almost immediately after surgery and spent 2 days in the hospital. I was back to doing everything I used to do after a month. He's amazing.

I had been dealing with balance problems for a long time but nobody could figure out why. He diagnosed me right away, showed me where the problem was on my MRI, and told me what could be done to fix it. I had surgery 2 months ago and my balance has already gotten so much better!! I wish I had found him sooner!!

Dr. Hershman was friendly, understanding and spent considerable time with me answering all my questions. His examination was extremely thorough and he explained all my options. His knowledge of the latest techniques reassured me that I was with the right doctor.

Dr. Hershman was honest, nice, empathetic, and extremely knowledgeable. He spent much time with me, thoroughly going over where my back pain was coming from and answered ALL of my questions, while not making me feel rushed. Surprisingly, he gave me other options to try first before surgery! He has been the only spine surgeon that told me surgery could wait until I am ready!!! " If you want a surgeon you can trust, he is the doctor to see.
