Dr. Kuruvilla is my favorite doctor. Every visit with her lasts almost 45 minutes and we thoroughly discuss my diabetes and how to treat it. She always explains my options and we decide together what my treatment will be. Since we meet every three months, we review my situation and reassess. I like that I'm part of the treatment decision plan.

Very good at listening to my problems

She is INCREDIBLY nice, I couldn't say anything negative there! She listened, seemed very compassionate for my situation & she spent a lot of time with me. However her knowledge about my condition was seriously lacking. Actually she said they don't handle sex hormones at all (which is endocrine) & didn't believe my condition existed. I assumed being internal med she'd be a little more open minded than traditional endo's but no such luck. If you have diabetes she may be a good candidate for you. As she did seem knowledgable there. If you have thyroid or ovarian issues not at all. She's TSH driven like previous poster said which is so inaccurate. Free T3 & T4 which are ACTUAL thyroid hormones are how you properly treat thyroid. I went under-treated for over 15yrs based on TSH, once I became treated by Frees I felt 20yo again. You'd never convince me otherwise to go back to TSH. Very nice lady though & again if you have a common disease she may be for you, otherwise if it's thyroid then… I'd say no.

Kuruvilla was called in for a consult while my husband was in the hospital for something else. He already had a doctor in the St Lukes system, but he wasn't given a choice. Although she had access to his endocrinologist in the St Lukes system, she decided to treat him like he was a newly diagnosed diabetic. She wanted him to start counting carbs and insulin levels in a whole new manner. She had to get her calculator out to figure out how to calculate using the formula she was suggesting. Two weeks later, my husband had his regular appointment with his regular endocrinologist at St. Lukes. The doctor told him to disregard all that she had said. The system they had worked out was working and the other was too complicated and didn't make sense. Kuruvilla also charged us the highest level consultation possible. While the cardiologists spent much more time with us and were of tremendous value at less than half the cost, Kuruvilla provided no care/advice of any value to him and… charged us more than double what the cardiologist charged. Our regular endocrinologist also told us that he hardly ever used that consultation level billing unless patients were on an insulin drip and in critical care. I reported this to the Kuruvilla's office and they stand by her. Stay away from this doctor and her office at all cost. Certainly a quality of care issue and their billing is ridiculous!

I have been to her several times. Each time she has listened to me and been very caring and kind. I have been to many many endocrinologist and she is by far the best one in the Midwest. She was the only Dr. that would help me get a insulin pump! It has made a huge difference in my life! I have nothing bad to say about Dr. Kuruvilla! I highly recommend her!

I went to Dr Kuruvilla because I was still having hypothyroidism symptoms 2years after RAI. I found that she was very narrow minded and could not help me at all. She claimed that TSH was the most important test and that my symptoms had nothing to due with my thyroid. I have since found a dr who did the proper testing(Free T3 & Free T4), changed up my thyroid meds, and I am now feeling so much better.
