Dr. Anita Chekuri, MD

I did not have a pleasant experience with this provider. She was dismissive, and condescending. I felt rushed and I could barely finish a sentence without being cut off and disregarded. She even took it upon herself to tell me “Well I can’t see you through the phone” in a snarky tone when I complained about right arm pain. Told me to ice it although I said it’s been going on for months. The doctor also made it a point to tell me that her phone appointments are to order labs or a common cold basically implying I had too many concerns for the call. For reference my concerns were Lab work, a weight loss REFERRAL, and arm pain. I also noticed after researching her a bit more she was an obesity doctor. That being said I’d think she’d be the right fit for my concerns but she more seemed bothered than anything. I will be finding a new doctor. I’m hoping she can get some practice in the future on patient care because she is struggling in that area.

Has a very "who's the doctor here?" attitude. Doesn't listen, and she was dead set on a diagnosis completely unrelated to what I had come in for. I don't think she allowed me to complete a single sentence during our visit.

In the fall I called to make an appt. bc I was experiencing pressure in my chest. I could not see my Dr (Chekuri) due to her busy schedule so I was booked with a different Dr. She was pretty dismissive of my symptoms but eventually prescribed a chest x ray. I didn't hear the results nor were they on My Chart. I posed the question on My Chart to see what the results were but got no answer. I then discoved a voicemail from the Dr telling me they found spots on my x ray and I should get a CT scan. This was in a vm! It just got worse from there with ongoing dismissiveness of this and I never heard from Chekuri. The communication is awful here. No one acknowledged anything. It was as if I was a nuisance. So I moved to a practice at NYU and the first thing I asked about was communication. So far it has been like night and day even though my NYU Dr is also busy, she responds on email very quickly. That's not too much to ask, right?

It's not easy to find a great (primary care) doctor in NYC. Dr. Chekuri is knowledgeable, talented, and caring. Highly recommended.
