Dr. Anne Johnson, MD

Understand that if you are lucky enough to have Dr. Johnson caring for you, you are getting one of the finest Orthopedic surgeons in the country. On my first visit to her, she gave me her solution to my problem that I really did not want to hear. She said I needed my Ankle fusion from many years ago done again.I really did not want to hear that as I dreaded going through the surgery again. She said that Cortisone shots may help for now, which was true the first and second round. She did warn me that they eat away at the soft tissue and not a long term solution. Was still wanting to avoid the knife, and she said she would go along with my desires, and have more shots if I wanted despite diminishing effectiveness. She told me again things are not going to improve with Arthritis pain unless a fusion is done. I saw her after a few years of turmoil and finally told her you were right from start…I cannot take it anymore…I am ready. So wish I had listened to her right from the start. Surgery… went so well and I can walk without pain again. She is very patient to listen to your wishes and concerns and address them and help you all the way along with path to recovery. I would advise to listen to her right from the start, and don’t be upset her if you are unhappy with her diagnosis. I will bet she is right. I thank God for brilliant and talented people like Dr. Johnson and feel so lucky to have been her patient. To top it off, she is really down to earth and nice person as well.

Went to see her for a second opinion. Very cold and insulting. I thought I was seeing the best of the best, unfortunately not in my opinion. Ended leaving her office in tears and crying in the parking lot.

Dr. Johnson has operated on both feet and has helped me cope with complicated foot problems. She is a very talented, caring physician!

Due to injuries sustained in an accident, over the past 3 years, I have encountered many physicians/surgeons at several of the leading NYC institutions. These encounters were, for the most part, quite disappointing; however, I began to accept this ‘care’ as the norm until I met Dr. A. Holly Johnson. To clarify, late last year, I had the good fortune to find Dr. A. Holly Johnson, orthopedic surgeon, at Hospital for Special Surgery. Upon first meeting, Dr. Johnson, I was pleasantly surprised to find her to be so 'down to earth’…she was NOT condescending…she actively listened and acknowledged my concerns/issues, and more. Although being the expert in this particular situation, via her demeanor, tone, and dialogue, Dr. Johnson respectfully invited me to be a partner in my care. Dr. Johnson conversed with me as an intelligent adult person explaining what /why she could/could not accommodate [of my concerns/issues] with the goal being to ensure a safe surgery. I am extremely pleased,… not only, with the outcome of the surgery done by Dr. Johnson but of her care/interactions with me. Every encounter with Dr. Johnson confirms that she is what every physician/surgeon and any other medical practitioner should strive to be a) confident/skilled, yet, not arrogant about her/his knowledge/abilities as a physician/surgeon; b) able to recognize and respect the adult patient as an intelligent, reasonable person – until proven otherwise – and collaboratively engage WITH her/him in a respective, open, honest, and direct dialogue about concerns and care; and c) not compromise safety, yet, endeavor to address and whenever possible make accommodation for important concerns/issues of the patient. Thank you Dr. Johnson for being so secure in who you are as a person and as a physician/surgeon that you are able to treat people/patients with such patience, collaboration, and respect while providing exceptional medical/surgical services/care. DR. A. HOLLY JOHNSON truly DELIVERS what the definition of PATIENT CENTERED CARE should be about – something I’d not encountered until finding her.

Dr. Johnson was a life saver. I was able to see her the next day after I tore my Achilles and couldn’t ask for a better medical experience from day 1 through surgery and recovery. She is very knowledgeable (many years of experience) and an excellent surgeon. Hardly any pain after surgery, minimal scarring, and physical therapy is ahead of schedule. Her office is very responsive. I would recommend Dr. Johnson to anyone with a serious sports injury to the foot or ankle.

After 2 years of severe pain, swelling & bruising on my foot & numerous puzzled doctors- (until a 5 minute visit with Dr Johnson) who made an immediate diagnosis. I was then able to receive treatment & relief from chasing the cause of my rare disease (CRPS) also known as RSD.

Years of foodservice work caught up with my flat feet. The left being worse off required a new arch. 5 pins holding the mess together still doesn't alleviate the pain completely, though; even after 3 years.

The best surgeon I have ever felt with.
