Dr. Anthony Samuel Padula, MD

If the guy would put his ego aside and actually ask queations amd listen instead of playing on his phone and throwing out accusations, maybe he would be a decent doctor.

I believe that I was well treated for rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by Dr. Padula for six years. However, with age, I also developed osteoarthritis (OA) which he neither acknowledged nor diagnosed....at least to me.. I spent two years confused with increasing pain and no relief. I finally diagnosed myself, requested X-rays which confirmed OA. I had assumed that rheumatologists would also treat OA, lbut learned that this doctor did not. And so, I asked for a referral to a pain-management specialist. Dr. Padula referred me to a pain physician who lacked board certification in pain management and who had a reputation for being disdisrespectful to women.Padula had not done his homework. In summary, he failed to adequately diagnose, treat, or even refer me for help with my OA. Eventually, and on my own, I found an excellent pain management specialist. I continued to work with Dr Padula for my RA, until, on an occasion when he was overworked and sleepless from what I can only refer to as a… "side hustle" (as consultant to a nascent computer-based medical company), he lost his temper, and, quite simply yelled at me. I realized that it was no longer in my self-interest to continue treatment with Dr. Padula. With stress and difficulty, I found an excellent rheumatologist to whom I am extremely grateful; he is intelligent, low-key, compassionate and supportive. I am sad that someone who is as talented as Dr. Padula lost his perspective.....and violated hs oath to "do no harm". He harmed me. I was in pain, unnecessarily, for two years because of his hubris and neglect.

Dr. Padula yelled at me on my second visit with him when I asked him to write down the changes in the medications he had prescribed. Yes he YELLED. I was on 3 different meds and he rattled off the changes so fast I just wanted to make sure I understood him correctly. He yelled, "You should bring your own pencil and paper with you so when I give you instructions you can write them down. Just like when you were in high school write down what the teacher tells you to do." Then, he put his hand in his mouth and started chewing his fingernails! I was appalled that a doctor would do this to a patient obviously suffering in pain and how gross to watch a doctor chewing his fingernails. There is something wrong with this person.

not much compassion

Dr. Padula used a lot of medical jargon which made him sound intelligent, but he actually spoke a multitude of misinformation and in one case flat out lied regarding the use of a particular test as a diagnostic tool being the standard for a particular condition. He spent very little time listening, mostly liked the sound of his own voice I suppose and asked odd questions that didn't make a lot of sense given the context. I had to ask him to clarify his questions so I could answer them appropriately only to be met with him being irritated that I asked for clarification. At my initial appointment he yelled at me for not knowing why my primary doctor didn't order specific tests. I brought my spouse at my next appointment to see if what I was observing was just me, if maybe he was one of those types of people that has zero emotional affect and people skills or if indeed he was as bad as I experienced. My spouse said the same thing as me. Gigantic ego and it's really too bad because all… that medical jargon only made for the illusion that he knew what he was talking about. In reality, the very association that creates standards for diagnosis and testing for a condition he States he specializes in takes a position opposite of him in diagnostic standards. Additionally, he ordered a huge panel of tests, but didn't even explain what they were for or what he was looking for. When some of those tests came back out of range and with errors, he never addressed why the tests could be out of range or suggested retesting the one lab that had an error. He also NEVER listened about the severity of symptoms I had and didn't suggest a single therapy, medicine, etc that could help which is against his Hypocratic Oath to first do no harm. Watching someone suffer and doing nothing isn't practicing medicine. Truly, I'm disgusted. I'll never go back. Stay far away from this guy.

He would not fill my medication because I cancelled an appointment.I live in Livermore. He is in Walnut Creek. With gas as high as it is I saw no reason to make an appointment just for medication. I am feeling much better and I have been doing what he recommended for treatment. The meds helped me when I was in more pain than usual. I was NOT popping them like candy.Because of this situation I will no longer be seeing Dr. Padula. It's just more money and time out of my pocket.
