Dr. Chen is unique for a high powered specialist. She was interested in me as a patient and not just a left knee replacement. She actually examined me. She answered my questions in detail and did not hurry out of the room. My surgery was successful and I expect continued improvement as time goes on. I would recommend Dr. Chen to anyone. Dr. Chen is an extremely talented surgeon. She is a caring person, listens well and inspires confidence in the outcome, even though no-one wants surgery if one can avoid it. I will say that follow up visits should be in person. They should not automatically be scheduled as virtual, as mine were, but patients should be told in advance that in person or remote are both options. My first follow up was with Mae at three weeks, trying to show her my incision through my desktop camera - when it was impossible to lift my knee into view. But my surgery is healing very well, and with regular PT, I am recovering much ability, which continues.

Dr. Antonia Chen listened to me when we met regarding the possibility of my having a knee replacement. I had already had both hips replaced by other ortho surgeons, to whom I chose not to return. Dr. Chen came highly recommended and meeting with her was refreshing due to her interest in listening to my history and explaining to me what she could offer. Hearing that Dr. Chen does knee replacements with robotic assistance, and why, made me grateful that I had held off having my knee done. Also, watching Dr. Chen's videos on YouTube which promote significant exercise both before and after knee replacement confirmed that I would have a lot of control over how my body recovered. Doing specific exercises every day will continue to promote my knee fully straightening and bending as much as possible (over 120 degrees of flexion is the goal). I am now 12 weeks post-surgery and am so glad I had my knee replacement done with Dr. Chen and her team of Mass General Brigham.

My entire experience with Dr. Chen has been nothing short of miraculous. From initial consultation she was attentive and spent ample time understanding my particular knee issues (and history) and fully answered the myriad of questions and concerns I had. She gave me great confidence I was, and would be, in the best of care. The surgery was impeccable and my recovery to full mobility much quicker than I anticipated. Dr Chen and team replaced my left hip. The transformation in mobility and strength is amazing. Perfect job and I was walking day 1, and fully functional and totally pain free in 2 weeks. Wow- hats off to the full team.

After years of suffering from bone on bone in both knees, Dr. Chen was the only ortho surgeon that I saw who was willing to do total knee replacements on both knees. My surgery was done in the evening and I was walking the very next morning, climbed up and down 6 stairs and got in and out of a "mock" car in the PT room. I was home in about 14 hours after my surgery. After lots of hard work in PT and exercising daily, today I am within 3 months of surgery and am pain-free. It has been a remarkable experience all around and while I have worked very hard for this day, I credit much of the success to my skillful and compassionate surgeon!
