Dr. Arvinder Singh Walia, MD

Pill mill doctor. You see an NP for 5 minutes (never met the doctor), get a prescription, and they charge for literally everything. Fired as a patient due to a policy disagreement, and left hanging with inability to get a prescription refill. Dangerous doctor, lacks empathy, and only cares about money and getting you in and out the door.

Best psychiatrist in central Texas. Dr. Walia is kind, compassionate and is a good listener. Always on time for my appointments. Will do Telehealth appointments if you want it.

Dr. Walia is a treasure. Best in the psychiatric field in my opinion. I can tell he enjoys helping his patients because he listens and offers sound advice. His staff is super helpful as well. I generally wait less than five minutes to see him.

I was skeptical at first about going to see Dr. Walia, I read every review before making my decision. I was pleasantly surprised by both the reception staff (Ashley is fantastic!) And by Dr. Walia himself. He was kind, open, professional and most of all understanding. He explained my results to me and what my options were going forward. He took the time to listen to me and I never felt spoken down to at all. I am the type of person/patient that will take the time to do thurogh research before stepping foot into a doctor's office though... So I believe that helped immensely in our conversations. It helped us get to the same page faster if that makes sense. The reviews about the amount of time he spends with you (typically 10-15 minutes) are true, however I've never felt rushed in our appointments. He gets to the point rather quickly - which suits me just fine. My attn span probably wouldn't allow for an hour. But for someone who may require more of his time, you might be disappointed.… He is efficient and knowledgeable and in my opinion, a great Doctor.

Walia is condescending, arrogant, has ZERO empathy for his patients, and is a blotch on good psychiatrists everywhere. He practices “drive-by” psychiatry (you’re lucky to get 10 minutes, mostly him talking) and he pays NO attention to your input, such as unexpected reactions to drugs). He cancels appointments at the last minute so he can go on a lecture tour, but heaven forbid you get caught in traffic or have an emergency- he’ll.bill you for your lost time and is absolutely merciless about it. His patient manner is execrable, interrupting and talking over you. I’d give him negative stars if it were possible. Avoid like the plague.

No stars! Don't even go to this doctor - he doesn't listen. Your in his office for 15 minutes - tops! He writes you a prescription and out the door you are. He is just about the money and how many clients he can see within the billable hour - even though all clients are charged the entire hour (whether it be through insurance or private pay). I do have insurance and my claims show an entire hour. My last appointment, I canceled to due a family emergency, then was hit with a $100 bill and letter from him stating he cannot see me anymore. Now, when I am trying to pay this stupid bill, I am unable to get ahold of ANYONE in the office - and this has been going on for 2 weeks now. I now will need to go into his office and hope this has not gone to collections yet. DO NOT GO TO THIS JOKE OF A DOCTOR. There are many other better doctors out there that actually sit down, listen to you and care. He quadrupled one of my meds within just 2 wks of taking it! He had me taking blood tests every week… and seeing him every week - very unnecessary. And I was a patient of his for only 1 month! He didn't even send the orders to the lab one time and a Saturday morning of mine was completely wasted, then he got upset at me saying that I should have called his office --- on a Saturday? They barely answer during the week as it is. I am STILL trying to pay this bill so I can be done with his hoax of a practice.

Upon the first office visit with Dr. Waila, he looked at the meds that I was prescribed by another physician and made some adjustments. He then put me on an anxiety med that works more as a maintenance/preventive med, and started weening me off of my daily benzos. I was worried at first, but he knew what he was doing. Benzos aren't meant to be a long-term solution. They are addictive and you build up a tolerance so you need to take more and more to reach the same result. I was very upfront with him about my marijuana use for anxiety relief. He explained that while it may act as a quick fix, it actually can cause your anxiety to be worse in the long run. I followed his advice and stopped using marijuana and I did notice a difference. He did continue to give me a few benzos each month for the emergency panic episodes. Contrary to other reviews, he was always very supportive and even went as far as to tell me that he was impressed with my compliance and ability to ween off the benzos as… an everyday med, and stop using marijuana as quickly as I did. I did fantastically on the meds he prescribed. I feel that those who are saying he is cold or that he drops patients for their continued alcohol/drug use, are not being compliant with his plan of care. This is typical for any physician to do if a patient does not bother to listen to their professional advice. Especially, in psychiatry. They aren't going to continue to treat you, especially with meds that have adverse reactions (potentially dangerous) with illicit drugs or alcohol if you show no interest in wanting to quit using. This goes for most psychiatrist. If you go in open minded and willing to make adjustments, then he's the guy for you.

He prescribed me medication after the first time I met with him. I found this to be fishy, so I consulted with another psychiatrist and found that he had diagnosed me incorrectly. In addition, the medication he prescribed is highly addictive. Thank god I didn't take it.

3rd appointment which I'll admit I missed and they want to charge $100 for a missed appointment fee. Too many other good psychiatrists to go see who are slightly more forgiving. Besides it's going to be 5 minute appointment anyway to refill my prescription.

Bottom Line: It is my opinion that he has an expert knowledge of medications. He found a "cure" for me. I went to him for 5 years, and was very satisfied. You must know however that he is very black and white, and formal. If you prefer someone soft and fuzzy he is not the dr. for you. At one time charged a fee if you were late to your appointment (don't know if he still does?) The upside to that is you never a wait in the lobby for more that 5 min. Awesome. After 5 years of treatment he dropped me as a patient on account of my alcohol use. As far as I know he has no substance abuse training. I refused to discuss the quantity of my alcohol use with a dr. not licensed in that area of expertise. He had a problem with that. (which is completely his right).At times I go 2 weeks without drinking. My husband thinks that I am fine. He said , If he thought I had a problem, he would tell me. I don't know how it works? Will another Dr. accept me? Or have I been black balled? If I can not find a… dr., I will have to ween myself off Lamictal. I do not know how. It is a dangerous process. You must have dr. supervision. Dr. Walia did not give me instructions. Dropped me like a hat.
