Dr. Ashish Bhupendrakumar Shah, MD

I was referred to Dr. Shah after seeing 2 different surgeons in my home state of MS. They said I needed a specialist for my much needed operation. I was excited to go to UAB having been there many times with family. Imagine my disappointment when Dr. Shah informed me that he would not do my needed operation until I stopped smoking. I said I would consent to go on the patch but that wasn't good enough. Gave me a form to be filled out by my GP to test my nicotine/serum level before he would consent to do my operation. I have had several operation in the past 10 + and I have never had a problem healing or been requested to do this. I am in a great deal of pain and need this operation very badly...never did I expect to be judged or given an ultimatum by my surgeon for an operation on my toe! I am not a stupid person..I realize I need to quit but being refused medical treatment because of it...frustrated.

Dr. Shah has performed surgery on both my feet , and he is an excellent surgeon . Now , I have to have surgery again , and wouldn't think of using anyone but Dr. Shah .

I felt Dr. Shah understood my pain as well as the complexity of my feet issues. He recommended a more complex surgery but also said he could repair one component which would eliminate one problem (the bone breaking the skin) but would not improve my walking. I felt he respected me, and I certainly respected him.

Dr. Shah is very kind and caring as he evaluates and communicates his recommendations for the patient's treatment plan. He invites the patient to ask questions as follow-up and sad he will call to give answers.

I met this doctor after getting high recommendation from my primary care physician. I got the appointment within a week of asking it. He gave me a great advice on my foot and ankle problem including some conservative treatment. I ended up opting for surgery as conservative treatment was not an option for me. Surgery was timely and was successful. He gave me a long list of instructions on to do list & not to do list. He even provided me his personal cell phone number after surgery if I had any questions. Great Surgeon for me and I have recommended him to everybody I know who needs help with their foot & ankle problems.
