Dr. Ashok Jitendra Kar

Dr Kar operated on me for prostate cancer in Oct of 2008 A robotic procedure was used in the surgery. As a result of that operation I was left with 100 % incontinence and 100% impotency. As a result I had to have a second operation ( with another surgeon) for the incontinence which was very costly and painful. Even today I still have leakage and have to wear a pad 24/7 and will have to the rest of my life.

Dr. Kar performed my HIFU procedure for prostate cancer over a year ago. I have always found him to be up on the latest procedures available. Dr. Kar came highly recommended to me by a family member. Being treated by Dr. Kar is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I would recommend him and his caring staff to anyone looking for a quality urologist in a quality office.

One of the best surgeons I have witnessed performing surgery.I watched him perform Robotic Surgery for my father and was impressed by his calm nature and superb expertise.I would send all my family to him.

I recently had was scheduled to visit DR. Kar who comes highly recommended from the staff where I was last seen. As I walked in I was greeted by a very professional receptionist by the name of Veronica. She assured that I was taken care of and made me feel welcomed as I waited for the doctor to see me. Was very polite and receptive to my immediate needs. I normally hate going to the doctors but after the way I was treated I really appreciated how professional the staff of Dr. Kar treated me and I wanted to really share that Veronica was very nice. Thanks DR. KAR!!

Good doctor but disorganized and rude front office. Scheduled a ultrasound I showed on time waited nearly 2 hours to learn the staff had forgotten I was there and tech had left so I had to reschedule. The room needed cleaning. The staff was immature and shopping on the Internet talking on their cell phones about everything but business. Malfunctioning equipment required my return. Will not return. advised my GP who referred Kar, he is no longer referring.

Dr. Kar operated on my husband in Dec. 2008 for prostate cancer. It was a difficult surgery due to previous adhesions on the colon. His skill as a doctor made for a successful surgery. In 2011 my husband received a urinary sling that resolved his incontinence after the prostatectomy. Dr.Kar is incredibly caring and dedicated. He and his staff have always been very supportive of both of us. We would never go to anyone else for urological treatment. Dr. Kar is the best.

Dr.Kar has been honored as Chief of Staff of St.Joseph's Hospital and leads 1000 excellent doctors.He has lectured nationally and internationally on Robotic surgery and cured me of Prostate Cancer for which I will always be grateful.I would recommend him to my family and friends.

He misdiagnosed my father's medical condition resulting to his death.

Dr. Kar during a robotic prostatectomy cut the ureter and colon, creating a fistula through which fecal material and urine mixed, requiring an emergency temporary ileostomy and, because of the proximity of the two surgeries, a pulmonary embolism, which nearly killed me. I was in the hospital for almost a month (while the good doctor went on vacation with his family combined with a lecturing trip to India). WhenI was finally discharged, Dr. Kar didn't seem to know what to do with the fistula. He was like a deer in the headlights. He kept monitoring the condition through x-rays and ultra-sounds while nothing happened but hoping that the fistula would close of its own accord. Meanwhile I languished with a colostomy bag and foley catheter for well over 6 months. Finally, a friend put me in touch with the Urology Department at UCLA, where my condition was evaluated by a preeminent physician, Dr. Schlomo Raz, who, over the space of an addition 8 months and 2 surgeries later, repaired… the fistula and then reversed the ileostomy. According to Dr. Raz, fistulas do not repair themselves and, had I known about and come to him when the fistula was discovered, he could have repaired the fistula without the necessity of a surgery involving the temporary ileostomy and having a colostomy bag for over 9 months. I definitely agree with the reviewer who stated that Dr. Kar should at the least be brought before the appropriate Medical Board for disciplinary action. Apart from his botched surgery (he himself admitted that he had done far more complicated procedures in the past without incident), his lack of post-op assistance, essentially leaving me on my own to figure out what to do next to repair the mess he created, was insensitive, uncaring, and unforgiveable.
