Dr. Avery Lowell Seifert, MD

As a nurse and medical professional working at a community based VA clinic, I tried to call Dr Seifert to clarify lab orders on a mutual patient who was in my office. He identified himself when I dialed his extension, and I introduced myself, and began to explain why I was calling. He hung up on me. I gave him the benefit of the doubt thinking maybe we had gotten disconnected, and called once more. I advised him I was calling about a patient of his, and he immediately hung up again never giving me the opportunity to say why I was calling. If he felt it was beneath him to speak to a lowly nurse, he could have asked that I call his secretary, or his nurse. Coming from a teaching hospital in New York, I worked very closely with, and communicated frequently with, countless doctors & residents, and had never been treated so rudely. I was shocked. His patient was standing right in front of me when he hung up on me not once, but twice, and I apologized for the doctor's unprofessional… behavior. Hopefully he treats his patients better than his colleagues!
