Dr. Barry Reeves Pate JR., MD

Dr Pate seemed impersonal and too rushed. He did a quick ear, nose , throat check and sent me away with 2 prescriptions. I did not feel seen or heard. I won’t be back.

He was unprofessional, uncaring, asked me what my blood pressure and weight was. He told me everything was fine and it was just the Multiple Sclerosis that was causing my swallowing problems. He did nothing to check me looked up my nose and said it was fine. I was there maybe a total of 10 minutes. I went to a different ent dr. In 5 minutes he checked me and said I had a deviated septum. He ran the camera down my throat and told me I have lot reflux where the juices from my stomach come into my throat in the larynx and pharynx. Dr. Pate never ran the camera down my throat. He didn't even notice the deviated septum the other Dr. found in a couple of minutes. Dr. Pate told me I didn't need the camera run down my throat since I didn't smoke. My voice box and vocal cords have been damaged. Thank goodness the other Dr. found my problem. Dr. Pate just didn't care. The worst experience at a Dr. ever for me.

I'm not going back. They obviously know they had issues since the office is being revamped. Audiology equipment is from his father. Some was updated but maybe not sufficiently. The only problem in Asheville is where can you go where an ENT did his/her residency where that school is rated well. I haven't found anyone. He knows ears but it takes more than that to be a good ENT. His "bedside manners" are fine but they don't help ears. The audiologist he brought in appears inept and I ended up going to someone who worked with me rather than attempted to push me into getting a hearing aid about which she appeared to know little. There are better and more ***** places to go where marketing a product is known and it's not pushed on you.
