Dr. Beth Joanne Gearhart, MD

This was my first visit and I found Dr. Gearhart to be professional, friendly and informed. She also likes to meet with her new patients before the exam which is a nice touch. Highly recommend!

To my patient: As our office communicated to you multiple times, we don't have any control over what the lab charges or what your insurance puts towards your deductible. You had extensive lab work recommended by the American College of OB-GYN due to your medical history, and the lab charged $6726, and put $2299 toward your deductible (per your insurance company.) Thus you were responsible for $2299 in lab fees. Our office DOES NOT make any money from lab fees. You owed our office $36 from your medical visit for other medical problems, which you paid to us. My office staff contacted the lab and your insurance company of your behalf, but could not make them change their policies. We took care of your medical issues, and luckily, all the recommended tests were normal. You were happy with our care for 11 years until you got a large, unexpected bill put towards your deductible, which we couldn't know ahead of time and couldn't control. Please do not confuse "money issues" with… medical care, which was appropriate. I hope you and your family continue to be healthy.

I have known Dr Beth for more than 20 years! She is very thoughtful, knowledgeable and competent!! She treats her patients as she would treat her mother or sister. She does what is right for her patients!

Dr. Gearhart has been my mom's doctor since she was pregnant with my older brother and now she's my doctor. Both of us have received nothing but great care. She takes the time to inform me of what procedure's she is doing and why. The previous review saying that she got an expensive $2500 bill for labs has nothing to do with the doctor. That's an insurance issue that even the doctor may not be able to predict depending on the patient's policy. Also, for certain readings, you MUST go into clinic for privacy reasons, even if results were fine. I work in healthcare administrations and have experience in billing and insurance policy.

Do not expect good bedside manner or honesty. Do however expect to get taken advantage of and billed a lot of money for unnecessary testing. She wanted me to get a blood test, made it seem routine, and very necessary, and I was slapped with a $2500 bill in addition to a $36 bill for her to make me come in to say everything was perfectly fine (could have been a phone call). If you are a new mom and not a medical professional and you’re seeking advice from a doctor that is knowledgeable and has your best interest at heart... start looking elsewhere.

Dr. Beth has cared for me since delivering my youngest child 18 years ago. Since then she has always provided me with nothing but the absolute best care possible. For a few years now I had been having issue, Dr.Beth always reassured me when I was ready so was she( I needed surgery but you know as a working mom we don't always but ourselves first). I finally had enough! I needed the surgery but by now there were additional issue, Dr.Beth worked with 2 other Doctors, a general surgery and a plastic surgeon to make it all happen and even when ABOVE and BEYOND in my option in writing a letter to my insurance because they were not going to authorize part of the procedure, with out that I had a 100% of infection. I am happy to say I had the surgery and recovered well. Dr. Beth Gearhart is an sensational doctor and I will continue to be a patient of hers. Also her staff is great they are always very attentive and will to help. Helde is her nurse and has been with Dr. Beth since they begin… beginning. She is awesome!!

Just addressing the post about Mercy Hospital. I operate and deliver babies primarily at St. Luke's Hospital and Missouri Baptist Hospital; there is no residency program at these hospitals. I do cover on call for doctors whose patients deliver at Mercy, and occasionally a patient has insurance that requires them to be treated at Mercy Hospital. Most patients, however, choose the hospital they deliver at or have surgery at with their doctors recommendations. All patients should be treated with respect, and teaching (residency) hospitals are part of that process; without them your doctor would not be well trained (because we all had to learn and train at a teaching hospital).

I agree with the comment about not good bedside manner---I came in with pain at first Dr. Gearhart thought a laparoscopy would be a good idea to investigate then decided since I had had a hysterectomy and ovaries removed that since I did not have any female parts she could not help me even though there was a cystic pelvic mass on the ultrasound which she stated could not be ovary remnants--well luckily I went to a different ob-gyn who at least along with a general surgeon--wound up removing the cystic mass which did have ovary remnants that were calcified and also had my appendix removed--so yes my case was complicated but I think she should remove the hart from her name since in my feeling she had no heart and had her nurse blow me off when I was in pain saying Dr. Gearhart said you have no female parts and she only operates on women that do..well calcified ovary remnants are female parts!!!!!!!!!! I had to share this so others would know how I was treated!!!! I have never in my life… commented on a doctors care before!!!

Dr Gearhart was my doctor for my first pregnancy and she delivered my child. Overall I believe Dr Gearhart is knowledgable, however I think she may be burnt out in her job. Her bedside manner is less than desireable. She always seems as though she has somewhere better to be and not terribly interested in you. I almost felt bad bothering her.
