Dr. Braden Kuo, MD

I went in for a routine colonoscopy for colorectal cancer screening. Braden Kuo performed the procedure. Kuo perforated my colon in the first 30 cm when he reached a tight turn. Now, when getting to a tight turn, doctors have many options to navigate through the turn such as inflating the colon with water to create more space or switching to a pediatric scope. Instead, Kuo just applied more brute force until he perforated my colon. Then, instead of trying to repair my colon by cauterizing the hole or using what's known as a "bear trap" to close the hole, he just pulled out the scope and then dumped me in the ER for someone else to fix. While in the ER, I went through 7 hours of agonizing pain (to the point I was screaming and begging for pain meds) as the contaminated material in my bowels spread throughout my intraperitoneal cavity and caused significant peritonitis. I almost went septic and required emergency surgery which left me with a huge abdominal scar (from 25 staples) and… a colostomy bag. Then I suffered through 11 days of pain in the hospital where I was unable to eat or drink anything for many days due to nausea. Kuo didn't bother to visit me until Day 6 following the procedure where he told me that given the same circumstances, he would not have changed a thing. Due to the waivers you are required to sign prior to the procedure, I am left without legal recourse. Kuo mutilated me and greatly diminished my quality of life. Yet he is allowed to continue to practice medicine and I am left with no compensation for my pain, suffering, and worse quality of life. If you go to MGH for a colonoscopy, insist on another doctor.

Dr. Kuo is an exceptional doctor who saved my life. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for his taking me on in an urgent situation as a new patient and accurately diagnosing and treating a rare disorder. I had previously been extensively tested and misdiagnosed by numerous doctors in CT, and they were all stumped. Dr. Kuo took me on as a new patient; I travelled from out of state. He was my last hope. I was desperate and running out of time. Dr. Kuo is an expert in his field. He is a miracle worker who takes his job and patients’ health extremely seriously. I am forever grateful to Dr. Kuo. I did every single thing he told me to do, and I recovered! I highly, highly recommend him. He is a hard-working doctor who treats and cures the most seriously ill patients - like me!!

Sit here writing the review as I have been waiting for 1.5 hours. I was just informed that the visit will be virtual. Could have done it from home rather than commute 45 minutes. He also moved offices and failed to let folks know. It will be my last visit. He does not care about your time. Clinically it is hard to tell since you are constantly screened by interns.

Awful experience. Felt hopeless after talking to the doctor. He is quite arrogant for a doctor. Reached out to his group of nurses and they treated me like the worst kind of customer care reps. (Not to speak ill of the latter- probably justified for their pay) I only got 1 line responses from them saying we do not think anything is to be explored and I was asked to live with my condition. A friend said I deserved better care and much happier with my current provider.

This man is lucky that I didn't file a malpractice claim against him. As it was, I filed a complaint with the Chief of his department. I was referred for an endoscopy after months of vomiting and weight loss and was assigned to Dr. Kuo. Following the procedure, his office called to tell me he had ordered more tests - no explanation, no discussion with him, even though I asked to speak with him. After 2 uncomfortable and long tests, I was able to see him several months after the endoscopy. Actually, I saw his Physician's Assistant who finally took a history and discussed my problem. I then saw Dr. Kuo for a few minutes - he didn't look at me or listen to me. His diagnosis was in alignment with his research interests and he prescribed medication that was totally unsuitable and ordered yet another test. My GYN saw me and immediately hypothesized that my thyroid medication needed to be adjusted. Once that was tested and adjusted, things were fine. Worst doctor I have ever been to.

At first I t hi Uighur dr Kuo was the answer and thought I found someone who would help me I get the fact that they are brilliant and lack bedside manner I get that I have my awesome pcp dr golden for that After waiting 6 months to see him suffering with utility issues I finally saw him and had many tests After a recent test I emailed them to ask if I was supposed to be in pain and then I emailed two days later for results I don’t know isn’t that what patient gateway is for Long story short They finally called Told me results and then said he had many patients and that I wasn’t his only one and that I sent too many emails Even nurses at mgh we’re glad I had another doctor to do my last procedure He is a very cold hearted person If my health isn’t bad enough my whole self esteem went down hill So unprofessional of him I would not recommend him to anyone and I plan on furthering my disgust with someone

Been seeing this doctor and his nurse practioner Samathan Ann Calabrese for a year now. They do not respond well when I ask for other treatment options or pay attention to my concerns. They really just treated me like I know nothing and do not even listen to my concerns. I wish I look the reviews seriously. Now I have wasted a year and could have probably found a better doctor that really cares about their patients.

Have never seen a doctor who had so little empathy or lacked any shred of emotion. Additionally, his diagnosis, or lack thereof, was wrong. It's obvious by his posture and condescending tone that he thinks quite highly of himself. But unless you are on death's doorstep, don't expect him or his staff to pay you much mind. This guy may be a good scientist, and maybe he saves lives because of it, but he's not a good human being.

Switched to Dr. Braden Kuo from a different doctor. I am happy with the switch. Dr. Kuo was very polite during our first visit, attentive to details, and ultimately gave me the treatment that made me feel better - which is what I care most about. What I especially liked about him is that he explained the process by which he was making a diagnosis and that he explained well the treatment options so I was able to make an informed decision. He does a thorough exam. What could be improved: the wait time at the office is too long. I've had followup appointments too and the wait time is consistently 30-45 minutes. It is difficult to make a new patient appointment at Mass General Hospital in the Gastro clinic - the wait list is very long (it took me a few months to get that first visit). That said, once you are a patient it is easy to get a followup (~2 weeks wait time in my case).
