Dr. Brian T. Mcdermott, MD

A long "resident doctor" at Fredericksburg Orthopedics Associates chose to leave the area, unfortunately. A hard person to replace. So, at my first visit to another doctor, Dr. Brian McDermott, for a follow-up on a complex issue, I was concerned (without merit) as to what the new doctor would be like. Upon careful reflection after my visit, I realized that even though I really did not communicate well at all. In spite of that, Dr. McDSermott was thorough, he had obviously gone over my file/records and was very complete in his examination and assessment. Additionally, he was kind, to the point, very informative and helpful. He handled me, a sort of grouchy man, very well in fact. I would highly recommend him.

Dr.mcdermott did my hip surgery 1 month ago he did a wonderful job i wish i would,ve had him do it sooner i have one more hip to go and im looking forward to him taking care of it for me I highley recomend him for hip surgery wouldnt let no other Dr. Do it but him

My eldetly aunt saw him today. Dismissive arrogant and outright rude. My aunt had no idea that she could choose her orthopedist! Sadly many patients do not realize this. Noone has to tolerate this kind of treatment. My aunt had to give up her pet, may lose her home from lack of mobility. She waited weeks for this appointment only to be treated with disrespect and sent for more imaging.

1. his office is impersonal...factory like 2. his bedside manor is poor 3.he refused (me) nerve block as promised at last minute prior to knee replacement 4.after a year, my new knee is "lose" and i still have pain 5. he admitted that it is lose and to making a mistake but will not stand behind his work....he actually found humor in my request to correct his mistake at his expense 6. I would NOT go to him again for any reason

I would not recommend Dr. McDermott. He was chronically late for appointments and showed little concern for my knee issue. He didn't bother to ask about my fitness routine for a better understanding as to why I had the knee injury. He spent very little time with me and and post-surgery, offered no follow-up care other than stitch removal. I believe he has messed up my knee even further, as it has not returned to normal since the surgery. I have not been able to resume jogging yet. I am currently seeking a new specialist.

Dr. McDermott came highly recommended from my primary care physican and other nurses in the office. However, his front office staff is not friendly or helpful. I've had five appointment and had to wait at least 50-60 minutes to actually see him. Then he spends about 5-10 minutes with me. I ask questions and rarely get answers. I had minor surgery done and everything seems to have gone as planned. I think he is a good "cutter" (his terms),but his bedside manner needs a lot of improvement. I only have one more appointment with him until I see OS that is highly recommended by patients. Please do your research first and see two doctors before you have surgery. I think is so important to feel comfortable with your doctor and not to feel like a number.
