Dr. Bruce James Andersen, MD

We had two appointments with Dr. Andersen. The first appointment he never bothered to ask our names and was more concerned why we were seeing him instead of another neurosurgeon. He didn't seem to care much about the injury. Second appointment we waited 50 minutes in the exam room. When he finally came in there was no apology for the delay, no regard for our time. It took three weeks for him to provide the proper justification to the insurance company for customized medical equipment he preferred over the original equipment we had received in the ER. Needless to say, three weeks were spent in a supposedly incorrect back brace. He couldn't believe he was the bottleneck in our getting the new equipment so when we tried to explain what we knew, he cut us off and said he wasn't going to argue about it. He couldn't remember authorizing x-rays, kept asking the same questions (which all data was in our file) over and over. He tried to send us back for more x-rays so we… had to explain, again, we had all the views taken, as he requested. Once he believed we had the x-rays taken, he apparently took a look at them in a different room, came back and said you are healed, you are free to go. The new custom medical equipment we waited three weeks to get won't be used, money wasted, another reason insurance costs are high. Not sure a broken vertebrae can completely heal in 5 weeks but given he couldn't find the break on the first visit, not sure we trust it's completely healed now. Very arrogant with no people skills, no listening skills and zero common courtesy. Our conclusion - No trust, no confidence, wouldn't recommend. We only went to him because he was in network.

I have chiari malfornation. I asked to be tested for sister conditions to ensure surgery was done correctly. I was denied testing. After surgery I was treated like a drug addict and put on only asprin 10 days after brain surgery. I have had multiple complications since surgery and him and his staff have refused to see me. Also I now have been diagnosed with the two sisters conditions I asked for testing on. .. they are now horribly worse since he refused testing.

I cannot believe that St Al's continues to allow such a doctor to treat patients in their hospital. Our experience with Dr Andersen was horrible. We came down from Twin Falls as at the time Dr Andersen was working from Dr Hammond's Twin Falls office. I clearly remember Dr Andersen touted the fact that the was a teaching doctor, he had privileges at all the hospitals, and that he would be having my mom have her surgery at St Al's. Great--we had heard nothing but good about the hospital and its staff. Dr Andersen was advised to have an Internist or PCP follow my mom as she had asthma and bad diabetes, along with some pain issues. He chose to ignore this and told her TF PCP that he would "take care of it all himself". Okay, well, let's just say that her Level 10 of pain was not ever addressed, I was on the phone to her PCP in TF asking what could be done, and only to be told that he had placed her at a hospital she had no privileges at, and to try to talk to Dr Andersen. The… nursing staff was actually crying for my mom's pain and apologized. They felt so helpless, and he was so cold about giving her anything to give her relief. I got into a heated conversation with him as I am Medically trained and understood what we had to do to get her comfortable, but he REFUSED to help. I pushed for her to be discharged and called ahead to our local hospital, and spoke to the Transitional Care Unit and also her PCP. It took me a good part of her day to get her downstairs and into the car (her pain was so intense), and I drove like a bat out of h*** to get her TF. Upon arrival (and they were waiting) they got her up to a room in TCU, and with a few minutes her PCP and another doc from her PCP's office showed up. They administered her pain meds and within minutes she started to feel relief. It was so draining on her she could hardly stay awake. She was exhausted and not only physically but mentally drained. Had he not had the "God" syndrome in his head, she would have been a great patient and would have been able to recover normally. Unfortunately, to this day, her back is still not right. She had another doctor look over her medical records, and well, let's just say we could have a nice, big law suit on our hands, but many doctors scratch each others back. What happened to our old-fashioned doctors who truly care for their patients, and blow the whistle on those harming and not helping others? Dr Andersen should be barred from doing any surgeries in the future, and I hope the doctors who recommend him look at their own practice. Ultimately it comes back to you and later the patients will hold you responsible for the referral. Also, St Al's needs to really be careful in allowing such an unqualified, nasty man working from their facility. If a facility wants to give the best patient care and have a wonderful reputation, they really need to get rid of Dr Andersen!!

Dr Andersen removed a large tumor from my wife's brain. He described the procedure to us and got us scheduled quickly for surgery. He strikes me as an extremely confident surgeon and I heard many remarks from hospital staff as well as our hometown doctor that we were in good hands. My wife's recovery since coming home has been great.

He is an awful doctor and did not take care of mom as promised!

Dr Anderson has ZERO bedside manner. Worst experience I have ever seen. I have never seen a doctor treat a patient and family so poorly. Look elsewhere!

he even took time to talk, long distance, to my brother (who is a doctor) and explained the details of my situation. He also talked to my daughter and explained, in terms she could understand, my situation. HE is starightforward and honest. I felt him to be very caring too.

It took two visits to the emergency room after my surgery before this clown who performed back surgery on me would see me. After he failed to believe I was in serious pain and would do anything about it. I had to suffer for 6 months before my primary care Dr. could get me elsewhere for treatment. My treatment has now been taken over by the University of Utah and I am finally getting help. I am 64 and have never had a bad experience with a Dr.with the exception of this guy. I would strongly suggest you steer clear.

I don't know who gave him 3 stars (maybe it was his mom) but he operated on my father in Brooklyn Hospital, my father walked in to have surgery but couldn't walk out. He has been permanently disabled since1998. As far as his bedside manner is concerned, he doesn't have any. He didn't even have the decency to let us know that he was moving to Idaho before he operated on my Dad, we would have never let him touch my Dad. His main concern was getting out of NY. DO NOT LET HIM TOUCH YOU OR YOUR LOVED ONE.

Dr. Cherny seemed uncaring and didn't take the time to follow up with me after a procedure. He basically did it then left, leaving me with questions about my aftercare. I had to ask the nurse, who didn't seem to know. I had to figure out how to take care of myself from my discharge papers. It's a good thing I didn't have any complications, because I sure wouldn't have called him.
