Dr. Carilyn Hunt Sparks, MD

Let me start with the background. My first pregnancy ended in a miscarriage, and I recently learned that I am pregnant again. I was referred to Dr. Sparks by the OBGYN that I had before my miscarriage, as that doctor is no longer performing deliveries. When referring me, he also mentioned that I should have several tests done asap to make sure that the miscarriage was not the result of a pre-existing condition. On Monday, I called Dr. Sparks office to make an appointment, and told the receptionist about the previous miscarriage and recommended tests. I was told that my call would be high-priority and I'd hear back after 24 hrs. After 4 days of calling (it's now Thursday), I was finally told that I can be seen for an appointment once I'm 8 weeks along, but that Dr. Sparks policy is to not order tests for patients she hasn't seen. Her policy is also to not see patients before they're at 8 weeks. This puts me in quite a bind -- I can't get the tests that I need and 4 days have been… wasted. I broke down crying on the phone trying to ask the receptionist to please help me out (partially due to pregnancy hormones I'm sure, but also the trauma and sadness caused by the miscarriage). She asked me to hold, then transferred me to her manager. I re-explained everything (through many tears) and was told to find a new doctor. This is completely unprofessional, not to mention a potentially dangerous policy to my health. I would not recommend Dr. Sparks or anyone at this practice to ANYONE. Doctors should be people, not inflexible robots.
