Dr. Carl A Buccellato is the best OBGYN. I was in pain for 20 years and couldn't find a MD who would listen to me. I couldn't take the pain anymore last year, I really needed surgery. Then I found Dr. Buccellato's profile on Northshore.org. I knew he was the MD for me. He understands and is well educated with the latest technology which can make the healing process go by so much easier. He listens that's the most important. I finally get my first chance to live a normal life thanks to Dr. Buccellato, he's the best.

Dr. Carl A Buccellato is the best. It's not easy to find a good gynecologist who listens. I knew I needed surgery for a long time, just couldn't get any doctor to listen to me. It wasn't easy living in pain for years. I found Dr. Buccellato's profile on Northshore.org. He listens, he knows about and is trained in the latest technology that can make the healing process easier. That was important to me. I am finally healthy thanks to Dr. Buccellato who is an excellent surgeon and an amazing well educated OBGYN with really kind RN's and staff.

Dr. B is everything you'd want in a doctor. He's thorough, caring and kind. Never once, as a patient did I feel like I couldn't ask a question. And to be frank, I asked a lot. He guided me through my first pregnancy, which had its moments, but I can say for certain that without Dr. B the process would have been a heck of a lot harder than it was. I would recommend him without any question.

Dr. Buccellato is the best! He delivered both of my children. He’s very knowledgeable and I respect him. Not everybody can do what they do. I’m forever thankful.

This doctor is more interested in protecting himself than he is in administering proper and compassionate care. He practiced defensive medicine as opposed to looking at the issue I was having from a practical and solution oriented perspective. I do not recommend this doctor if you are looking for competent and compassionate care that focuses on a solution oriented approach to your health.

I am going to keep this as short as possible and to the point. Dr. Buccellatto was my doctor during my pregnancy. I had informed him that when it's time to give birth I wanted to have an Epidural. Five days PAST my due date, I started having frequent contractions in the early morning and was admitted to the hospital around 9 am. I was placed in a room and hooked up to the fetal monitor that measured the frequency and intensity of my contractions. When I was admitted at 9 am my cervix had dilated only 1 cm. The nurse monitored my change every 1-2 hours. During this time I had major contractions every 45 seconds to a minute. I was told to walk around the hallway to help my cervix dilate. Around 4pm, Dr. Buccellato walked into the room, examined me to see if there was any change in the cervix dilation and reviewed the contractions chart. The change was small (3 cm) and at that point he made the decision to discharge me and send me home. He told me that I should go home and relax because I… am NOT going into labor any time soon (although I was full term)!!! WORST DECISION EVER!!! As I was leaving, the nurses looked at me puzzled and one of them said "Something tells me you are going to be back pretty soon". I told her that I am not sure why the doctor decided to discharge us. But foolish me at that point I trusted him! It was my first baby so I thought he knows, I don't. My husband and I drove back home, which was about 30 minutes away from the hospital. The entire way back I had contractions every few minutes and was in a lot of pain. Within minutes after we arrived home, the pain intensified. It became excruciating and then my water bag broke. My husband rushed me back to car to get me to the hospital, but at that point the traffic was really bad because it was 5pm. We tried to get around traffic by honking and running through red lights to get to the hospital. As soon as I arrived at the hospital I had another major contraction on the hall way and by the time they placed me on the bed (couple of minutes later), the baby's head was right there! The nurses were running around like crazy to get everything set up, clearly running out of time. By then there was no time for an epidural or anything else. The pain was unbearable!!! I was screaming my lungs out and crying saying "why did you do this to me? I was here all day". Dr. Buccellato came in and looked at us in disbelief!!! My husband was furious with him for sending us home. The nurse held him not to make a scene. I delivered the baby within 20-30 minutes without any complications (Thank God!), but this doctor put my baby, my husband, and myself in danger!!! No woman should ever experience such pain and distress. If he had kept us in the hospital as he should, none of this would have happened. Because of this traumatizing experience, I do not want to have another baby :-( I am still trying to get over it. This was the worst experience in my life. He never apologized to us nor acknowledged that this was a bad call and he put us in danger. He kept referring to the medical protocol saying that if the cervix has not dilated more than 4cm in several hours then that means you are not going into labor. Well Doc, I hope this was a learning experience for you and that next time besides the "protocol" you take other aspects and contextual factors into consideration e.g. how far a woman lives from the hospital, whether she is full term or not, and how frequent her contractions are. Better be safe than sorry. And I am sure in this case, although you never acknowledged it, you were truly sorry for making such decision. Hope you remember it for the rest of your life and don't repeat it to another woman! Merry Christmas!

Dr. B has delivered two of my children now, and I would have it no other way. The care I received prior to, during, and post pregnancies has been phenomenal. He is very down-to-earth, always taking the time to answer my questions thoroughly, no matter how ridiculous they might be. He has been more than supportive of my want to deliver my children intervention free and with a doula in the room. Finally, he is extremely responsive - oftentimes getting back to me within 24 hours. He truly goes above and beyond for his patients and is an exemplary doctor. I feel so lucky to have had him present for two of the most important moments in my life.
