Dr. Carlos Eduardo Martinez-Quinonez, MD

My Mom suddenly began having spells of exhaustion. This doctor told her that was to be expected "at her age". It took him 10 days to get a monitor on her to see what was wrong, then another 5 days to get a report to her GP after repeated calls. The report had no recommendations from him and his office has still not scheduled her for an appointment so we can find out what the report means. His office staff has nothing but excuses about why they can't make an appointment and they never call back.

Dr. Martinez is very thorough & willing to take the time to explain my condition in terms both my wife & I can understand! He uses visual aids (pictures, heart models, wall posters, etc) to ensure we understand the diagnosis & treatment. When test results come in he takes the time again to make sure we understand what my results mean & simplifies the medical jargon so that, once again, you can understand what you need to do / be aware of going forward. I would recommend him to my friends, and have, in fact, recommended him to my mother-in-law & sister, among others. He may not always get to you at your appointment time but I appreciate that he might be taking time with his other patients to allay their fears too.. I do not mind waiting for that reason. I have seen 2 other cardiovascular doctors in Corpus, and both were late for their appointments w/ me. I wouldn't have minded IF they both had not had such terrible bedside manners - not explaining thing clearly & taking… chances with my health by waiting for procedures without explaining why they didnt see the need to order the rest of the tests. One of them in particular was condescending, would not or could not explain things well, and always preferred to take a "wait & see" approach to my problem... A hold-over, I suppose, from his army days. Even tho I had explained that my Stanford cardiologist has stressed that my condition absolutely needed to be retested every 12-18 months he stood firm on not ordering the tests. I left. Never went back. And found Dr. Carlos Martinez. Once Dr. Martinez looked at my records from California, he dida complete work up on me & ordered ALL the tests. Then he took the time to discuss his findings & set up a regular schedule to repeat the tests. I beat the widow maker in 2001. And after shopping around for a good cardiologist in Corpus, I found Dr. Martinez. I have been his patient now for over 5 years

He only knew that the patient was on hospice. How about talking to the family about what they can do to prolong his life. Hospice means they don't go to the hospital. C'mon doc, your a doctor to help save lives.
