Dr. Carmela Rider Pettigrew, MD

Dr. Pettigrew consistently rushes appointments and shows little interest in patient concerns. This became especially problematic during my recent IUD removal. I was told the procedure would be quick and painless, but it was extremely painful, enough to leave me in tears, hyperventilating, and with lingering pain afterward. She mentioned the IUD may have been embedded and was misshapen, but didn’t explain what that meant or whether it posed any risk. When I said we were planning to start trying to conceive, she made no effort to review my medications or discuss preconception health, even though that information is clearly listed in my chart. She began walking out of the room before I could ask questions and only stayed when I insisted. This level of care is not acceptable, especially during vulnerable and sensitive procedures. I would not recommend her to anyone seeking thorough, compassionate reproductive healthcare.

Years ago. I told this doctor that the doctor who delivered my Baby said If I had another baby that I would have to see high risk specialists from the start. Previous doctor died Dr pettigrew Didn’t take the danger of previous high risk pregnancy seriously nor did she accept the comments about seeing a high risk doctor from the start. Dr pettigrew said. Oh she can handle it. Well this lady is something. I was just informing her and wasn’t planning another pregnancy. But boy. What an ego. She can handle it. Which meant If I had another baby , in her mind I wouldn’t need to see a high risk doctor and not from the start either. Wow. In a bad way. Wish dr ego not a factor. But obviously Is. I had a rough pregnancy which was high risk and previous doctor had brains to call in high risk doctor . This lady doesn’t think that’s necessary. Even though told her past pregnancy was preeclampsia and baby born very early. Also. Previous doctor said if another pregnancy I should… go right to high risk doctors from the beginning But dr pettigrew said. She could handle it herself. So let me get this strait , she would rather put the patient Amd baby and higher risk by not listening And handle the pregnancy all herself. That’s not about the patient and the baby. That’s horribly wrong and not smart and sounds like her ego is more important than safety and sense. Also. She didn’t listen During the appointment and acted like she didn’t care. I wouldn’t have her deliver my baby ever. Unbelievable attitude. Not impressed. Better more caring doctors out there. Not her. She didn’t take any of my medical concerns seriously.

Dr. Pettigrew is not the doctor for me but some may appreciate her cut to the chase no small talk style. A friend referred me and did say that Dr. Pettigrew is “all business.” That’s accurate. I did not find her warm. Her profession is a people profession, so for me, I value a doctor who can connect with me. Her staff was personable but Pettigrew herself was not. I am a mid 50s woman who takes no medications, is more fit than many who are half of my age and I am committed to a healthy lifestyle. Dr. Pettigrew talked down to me. She was not gentle to the touch. It bothered me that she has posters about cosmetic procedures in the exam room. I am highly educated, healthful and take care of myself. I need an health advocate and did not find that in Dr. Pettigrew but I can see how some might appreciate her “all business” style.

Ive been going to DR. Pettigrew for years, and the only reason I haven't switched is because of the hassle. However, after today's visit, I will definitely be switching. Every time I have gone and asked a question, like the other reviewer stated, she acts like I am an idiot for asking and as if I am bothering her. I am a 52 year old , well informed well educated woman and she treats me and makes me feel like I am ignorant. I have never been treated so badly by a doctor. This is not just once , this is every single visit. I am sorry to leave such a bad review, but I sincerely hope another woman will read this and move on .

Dr. Pettigrew is a cold, distant doctor. I only went to her for gynecological yearly visits, but even those were unpleasant. I ended up having to have surgery due to an issue she found during one of my exams, and when I tried to confide in my DOCTOR with questions I had about what to expect/etc she made me feel stupid for having asked anything at all. She obviously puts way more heart into her child-birth patients because all of those reviews seem wonderful. Maybe she should stick to just delivering babies because she's barely even present during her other appointments.

Dr.Pettigrew is absolutely wonderful. She has been my doctor for 3 years. She delivered both of my children, and both of them are perfect... She gives such comfort. I trust her, and she always smiles.. She is the best..

My wife and I are very pleased with Dr. Pettigrew and her staff. Office visits are a pleasure for my wife as well as myself. Very professional and very friendly. Very quick as well. Dr. Pettigrew delivered our son and she made it a great experience! Zero complaints from my wife and I!

She appeared to care a lot about ME. I had failed to have a mammogram for several years and she made an appointment and sent me that day. I now schedule my appt for the same day every year. But she cared enough to make sure i did it.
