Dr. Carmen Eugenia Gota, MD

I saw Dr. Gota a very long time ago and I never stop thinking about her expert care and knowledge. She was my angel at a very hard time in my life. I had extreme pain in my legs for over a year. Not a single doctor in my hometown was able to diagnose my ailment. I was seeing a well known Neurologist from almost a year and he did his best to get a diagnosis but all the tests came back negative. He was intent on figuring out what I was riddled with and he was empathetic to my pain. He sent me to two different Rheumatologists who did their own testing but found nothing. He sent me to see a well known Vascular Surgeon and he had me do some tests. Nothing could be found. Then I was sent to a Dermatologist who did one test and said she thought I had vasculitis but recommended I get another opinion. Did that and the second Dermatologist wasn’t privy to diagnosing me. I was sent to physical therapy for months at three different clinics and I was sent to see a Pain Management doctor who was… hesitant to help me saying maybe I needed a psychiatrist. WHAT??? I finally got her to give me epidurals, but you are only allowed 3. Back to the Neurologist and he sent me to a Pathologist who did tons of blood work. He said “you’ve seen a lot of great doctors here in Buffalo NY, but it’s time for you to be seen by a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic. I was able to get an appointment right away and saw Dr. Gota. Short wait time and I was sent in to see Dr. Gota. I hobbled into her office in extreme pain trying not to cry. I said hi and didn’t even get to sit when she said “YOU have vasculitis!!! She could tell by the way I walked and the lesions on my legs. She checked me out, talked to me at length and put me on a strategic path to immediately start testing by her colleagues at the Cleveland Clinic that same day. I went from doctor to doctor getting tests all day long. The appointments were back to back in different buildings where a shuttle bus drove me right to the entrances. Dr. Gota had me go back to her office at the end of the day and she made an appointment to see her the following day- once all the tests went ready for her to look at. I stayed at the on-site hotel and when I saw her the following day she put me on a medication regiment to start off and tweaked it as needed by adding some, eliminating some, changing the dosages and I went back to see her for almost a year until I was in remission. She checked on me via phone calls and email. Made me feel like I was her only patient at all times. She set up a good Rheumatologist near my home so I could keep on getting the care I needed and even kept in touch with him long distance until she felt comfortable that I was in good hands. That was about 18 years ago and I am still in remission. I can never forget Dr. Gota for the wealth of knowledge and friendliness and professionalism and hospitality that I received by her. In fact, I just thought of her out of the blue and looked her up. Unless she took on a different persona (yeah, right), I find it very hard to read some of the words here. I just got really lucky when I got to have her as my doctor.

Didn't want to say this, but after 10 years, I'll tell, absolutely a awful doctor, why does the Cleveland clinic employ her, she ruins lives

Dr. Cota told me my diagnosis was wrong, yet did not offer any other diagnosis. She even wrote things in my notes that made it appear like i was faking (got out of wheelchair and walked into bathroom), yet if she would have asked me I would have informed her that I can walk short distances, but need the chair for longer distances. Don't waste your time and money, unless you want your sanity questioned and your diagnosis slashed. p.s. (based on my experience) if she sends you to the IMATCH program, it's because she wants you to see psych, not because she cares about your pain.

She is the worst doctor I have ever seen. Dismissive, cold, interruptive, and a waste of my time. She spoke too quickly and did not listen at all. I'm sorry I wasted my time and money to go to Cleveland Clinic.

HORRIBLE, horrible, horrible, horrible!!!! Don't waste your time....your health is too important! She is cold...not a compassionate or empathetic individual. I can't believe she is a doctor. I wanted to run out of the office.

When I read the comments, I though whey am I even going to see her!! but the pain was too much and I needed to find out what is going on with me. I was surprised. She is very kind and very caring. she may not smile at you all the time, and yes she asked lots of questions about my life style and habits, which I don't see anything wrong with it. chronic pain can be caused by anything and start in any part of the body. unless the physician gets to know the patient, how do we expect them to come up with diagnosis! I can tell you she definitely is not the kind that you walk in and she hands you a prescription to make you happy!!

Nothing like others have described. Squeezed my wife in without an appt. Was very caring and supportive and professional!

Where do I start??? I've been sick for many years, have several medical issues going on, so my doctor referred me to The Cleveland Clinic, which proved to be a total waste of my time. I waited months for the appointment and I went to a lot of trouble to send all of my medical records weeks in advance (per Dr. Gota's request). When she walked into the room, she asked why I was there (having no clue), and did not review any of the records I sent. She then left me sitting in a gown for 30 minutes while she "claimed" to be reviewing my records but was yelling at the nursing staff in the hallway instead. She was cold, impatient, rude, curt and abrasive. She refused to explain anything, only staring at her computer and not making eye contact at all. She told me my diagnosis was incorrect but couldn't explain why and became aggressive and nasty; she obviously didn't like me questioning her. SHe was unprofessional and dismissive and then ordered tests for a disease that I don't have and was… completely off track. When she emailed me my abnormal test results after I returned home, I asked her several questions which she ignored and still hasn't answered months later, completely unethical. As another patient stated, she also wrote inaccurate things on the report sent to my doctor. I'm appalled that after all of these negative reviews listed, The Cleveland Clinic continues to employee this woman! I wrote several letters to the clinic, which got me nowhere. I suggest you write your complaints to the medical board instead. Being determined, I thankfully have a wonderful team of doctors that have given me the correct diagnosis and I am finally receiving the proper treatment. My doctors were not wrong, she was wrong and negligent in my eyes. My advice is to see another physician, do not give up, persevere and keep fighting hard.

Hands down the most humiliating experience of my life. I could not believe Dr Gota asked me "Why are you here? Who told you to come see me?" You can imagine the look in my face. She made no eye contact, just typed away on the computer. Horrible bedside manner. Hard to believe she is a Cleveland Clinic Doctor. I'd give her zero stars if I could...run...do not walk away from this doctor as fast as you can....as hard as it may be with your arthritis or other ailments. If you've seen her get a second opinion!

Dr. Gota insisted on taking about $1,000 worth of tests on me (after insurance), claiming that they were "standard". She did not tell me how many she'd take or how much they would cost. She was extremely rude when I called to ask her about what illnesses had been ruled out, treating me as if I were impertinent for asking and using only complex medical terminology. I spent about two minutes on the phone with her, and I can't emphasize enough how rude she was -- she treated me as if I were a spoiled idiot for asking about my test results. I really felt conned by the Cleveland Clinic; Gota clearly relished the experience of not telling me anything/making me feel like a moron, and I spent $1,000 for the privilege. I truly believe this doctor shouldn't be allowed to practice.
