Dr. Paul Keith Pickrell, MD

I love Dr Pickrell. I saw him for years, many years ago, at his independent practice in S Austin. Lost touch (my fault, caring for aging parents) then found him again working for a Pain Mgmt practice as they started up a Rheumatology area of practice. I was thrilled to locate him again. Today, I found out he’s leaving there...but no info on where he’s going! I really only want to see him, no others. I’m spoiled, admittedly. He diagnosed me with RA, with markers, but a milder case originally. Originally, I saw him due to arthritis type pain all over, and he investigated me thoroughly to determine cause. He didn’t give up. I eventually found out I had something only partially related to arthritis. Finally, RA markers appeared which clearly pointed to RA. I am a pretty complicated case, having brain and other tumors, spinal issues, clotting issues, etc. I find him humorous, kind, gentle and thorough. I think anyone would benefit from seeing him, since he handles all… Rheumatology illnesses. I cannot imagine anyone having anything awful to say about him! He has many, many years of experience and currently also does research, on the side, investigating remedies for RA. This alone, has many benefits. He is one of my favorite physicians. I do hope he’s going to open or join another practice.

I have dealt with pain my whole life, and have seen plenty of doctors. Dr. Pickrell is stellar when explaining his findings, and he is the kindest, most compassionate man. Thank you, Dr. Pickrell!

I've been a patient of Dr. Pickrell's since 2006, and he is absolutely the best! I highly recommend Dr. Pickrell for any and all rheumatologic conditions, including unique autoimmune problems.

I am not one to gush and most reviews of Dr. Pickrell are very, very positive and very hopeful as you see the changes he makes in his patients lives. I went to see him for Psoriatic Arthritis without any blood markers, which is rather uncommon. After years of seeing spine doctors for back pain and explaining that I also had joint pain, I was referred to him. I do have topical Psoriasis so it wasn't a leap that I might be part of that group that has PA but it required a clinical diagnosis. After about a 15 minute rehashing of my last 15 years, Dr. Pickrell said "you know, you are the classic case for PA without the blood markers." I have been seeing him for 4 years and I will continue to see him until the day he retires. The man is great, the doctor is great. I highly recommend him. He requires accountability but in return you get his 100% devotion to you as a patient and as a person. Other's say it better as many of his patients are in way worse shape than I and to hear their… stories is quite moving. Good luck with your health and you're going in the right direction.

I have been with Dr. Pickrell for over14 years. I moved from Austin to the Hill Country area outside of Fredericksburg about nine years ago. I drive to Austin twice a year because there is no way I am giving up the very best doctor!

Dr. Pickrell is fantastic. He sincerely cares about helping others and is incredibly knowledgeable. I can't say enough positives things about him!

I have been a patient of Dr. Pickrell's for 15 years. After seeing several rheumatologists, Dr. Pickrell was the only doctor that was willing to try different combinations of medications to figure out what worked best for me . He is an advocate for lupus and he is the head doctor for many lupus research studies in Austin. He truly cares about his patients and is committed to finding a cure for lupus and other chronic illnesses.

he is a very articulate man and knows his trade. he doesn't rush you, he spends time with you and genuinely cares about his patients~ I've been to a lot of doctors over the years he's one of the best!!!

Tina Turner said it, "Simply the best, better than all the rest." I've never had a better physician. He takes time to talk to you about your symptoms, so he can determine an accurate diagnosis. He listens to your feedback about procedures and how medications may/ may not be helping. He allows you to have a say in what direction your care takes. His staff are amazing especially his nurse who is one seriously hardworking lady. I would and have recommended him to other people, and they have had the same experience as I. As a patient I can honestly say I TRUST him with my care.
