Dr. Small is a board certified psychiatrist and family medicine physician. He is co-founder of Bold Health, a medical group specializing in personalized psychiatric care, primary care and addiction medicine in Encinitas. In addition, he continues to practice as an addiction psychiatrist at the Veterans Administration in La Jolla. He is a graduate of the University of Hawaii John A Burns School of Medicine. He completed a combined residency in Psychiatry and Family Medicine residency at UCSD. Dr. Small’s treatment philosophy is founded upon the idea that empathy, self-empowerment, and the re-establishment of trusting relationships are key to recovery. Dr. Small utilizes the latest in evidenced-based medical treatment to treat addiction. He is also skilled in treatment of dual diagnosis clients, outpatient detox, and other psychiatric disorders.

Felt completely heard and cared for. Dr. Small really related to me and helped me for two years with my anxiety and panic disorder.

I feel he doesn’t relate to his patients whether to prescribe meds or give therapy. He comes across arrogant and impersonal and like there is a disinterested. Though I appreciated the new prescription and some insight at times, I am in for 30 min for quite high sum of money.

Dr. Small has greatly helped me in my issues involving anxiety and panic disorder. He is straightforward, but balanced and gentle. I appreciate that Dr. Small quickly answers/returns my Emails and calls - so you never feel that you are battling things alone.
