Dr. Christopher Joseph Bergin, MD

Dr bergin performed my disc replacement surgery two years ago. I still have pain to this day. After my surgery I was mistakenly given oral pain pills that had no effect instead of IV pain meds until my mom pointed this out and the nurse admitted it was a mistake; for some reason the dr ordered oral Tylenol instead of actual pain meds for a cervical disc replacement. I am also being harassed with a very large bill, when I have very good insurance that will cover this. The hospital was paid through my insurance, however dr bergins office knows I am currently in a lawsuit with the car insurance company and have flat out refused to put the claim through insurance expecting I get a windfall. I have been on disability for two years making half of my paycheck, and if I get anything at all, dr bergins would rather take half of it than put the claim through insurance. It’s disheartening and disappointing. I would not recommend this office. The stress of receiving these large bills threatening… collections when I have insurance is not worth it. I wish I knew this before I went to this office.

I had an incredibly poor experience with Dr. Bergin, who did my scoliosis correction surgery around 7 years ago. After fully recovering from surgery, I developed extreme back pain that limited my ability to do normal activities. Dr. Bergin assured me that it was a “normal” consequence of having back surgery & that I would just have to deal with it. About 1.5 yrs after surgery, I had back pain so severe one week that I was vomiting and also developed a baseball sized lump on my spine. I called Dr. Bergin’s office 3-4 times during that week to ask what I should do, but he never returned my phone call. Thus, I ended up going to the ER where I was told that I had a severe spine infection from the scoliosis surgery, that I needed an emergency surgery to remove all the rods and screws, and that some parts of my spine that Dr. Bergin worked on didn’t even fuse. The craziest part is, Dr. Bergin wouldn’t even return the hospital’s phone calls when they wanted my medical records from his office.… I would not recommend him.

I saw chris bergin twice. Both times he was professional. A bit rough around the edges but overall I was pleased with the time he spent with me without making me feel he had to rush to get to his next patient. That said, my reason for seeing bergin was for a complex spinal revision. He said he could "fix" me but with no guarantees. Since 2013, I've have 10 major surgeries; 6-7 on my spine and back. So this was daunting to say the least and I was extremely apprehensive to begin with. However, I decided to perform the surgery and scheduled surgery for 11-21-16. However, and this had never happened to me prior to a surgery, 10 days or so before the surgery I developed SEVERE anxiety, crying fits, loss of sleep, loss of appetite, nausea, and even vomiting. I labored over the surgery to the point I became paralyzed in fear. I called bergin on Saturday, 11-19, two days prior to surgery to hear his voice, console me and offer words of encouragement. Well, he did what he thought was his best… to calm me in our phone call, but he clearly does and did not fully appreciate or comprehend the extreme level of stress and anxiety I was going through and let's just say he failed epically to help change the outcome. On Sunday, the day before surgery, I made the decision to cancel. It was not easy for me. I felt ashamed, weak willed, embarrassed - you name it I felt it. I called the OR at Lutheran and the nurses I spoke with were VERY professional and understanding. Offering me sedatives, someone to talk to, etc. I can't praise them enough for their professionalism. But that is where the professionalism ceased as bergin's true colors came out. I had told the nurses I would be more than happy to speak with the doctor and sure enough he did call me two hours later. However, instead of trying to salvage the surgery, I was at the end of the most horrific, unprofessional conduct, acerbic, haranguing tangent as bergin became completely unhinged and SHAMED me BLAMED me, told me to pull my head out of my rear end (he used another word) and how I hosed, yes "HOSED" his day and his patients by cancelling. "Now I have on open surgical spot" that I can't fill. Then he told me to get off drugs, implying that I was a recreational user of illicit narcotics (I am on 8 Norco a day and Valium to help with back spasms). He said I screwed all the "representatives" involved with the case and now he had to ship back, literally, 15 crates!? He then told me to call him in 6 to 8 months and only then would he consider treating me. Please note, I was very contrite and apologetic during most of this berating but as he kept up his tirade, it became clear that I was clearly dealing with a lunatic with an MD after his name who clearly demonstrated he ONLY cares about himself. My jaw literally hit the floor listening to his non stop barrage of insults and how I "EFFED" up the entire surgical theater continuum. I have NEVER cancelled a surgery in my life. Not EVER. I could simply have not shown up on the day of surgery but that is NOT me. It's my body, my emotional state, and my prerogative to cancel a surgery for whatever reason. The audacity of bergin and his sickening lack of professional conduct is outright, severely unprofessional and NOBODY facing a surgery, much less a complex revision of the erector set that is my spine, should EVER have to listen to an alleged "professional" spew blame and fault and derogatory remarks from ANY physician. Bergin should have his medical licensed pulled. He's not fit to work with people's lives on the line. Not only have I suffered severe anxiety prior to the cancelled surgery, but his hysterical myopic disrespectful insult filled drivel has caused me EXTREME emotional stress and duress. Enough so that litigation is a serious and viable option. Do NOT see this man. I only wish I recorded his vitriol to prove what I've said here is the ABSOLUTE TRUTH!

I found Dr. Bergin to be very arrogant and judgmental. He undermined my other physicians judgements and thought his opinions were the only ones that mattered. Would not recommend this Doctor.

I wanted to wait a week or two before leaving a review about my experience with This absolutely Great and talented surgeon. I had a herniation in my neck, and quite simply the Dr. did the most amazing Job I believe any surgeon could do. Not only was I up and walking as soon as I woke up after Surgery. I had a little pain but, not what I thought It would be, not even close, and two weeks after the procedure I can move my neck, am more agile, and slowly getting back to a similitude of normalness

I was in pain 24/7 and after Dr. Bergin did my surgery, I am now pain free and have resumed my life. Cindy

I came in to his office with a genuine complaint. I was totally dismissed and given about two minutes of his time to be told it's all in my head. I've never been treated like this by a physician. Absolute no bedside manner in fact I came out of there feeling I was a problem to his day.

I was referred on a workman's comp claim for a back injury from a car accident. I got an appointment and asked friends, coworkers, etcetera, if anyone was familiar with him. Those who were had high praise. He is thorough, dislikes surgery unless its the only option, friendly, and his office staff is quite efficient. High recommendation. The 3 starred bullets are because those points have nothing to do with the doctor on a workman's comp claim.

Dr. Bergin is an excellent doctor.
