Dr. Christopher Cortman, PsyD

Cortman took sides when "we" needed a counselor. His advice to my lovely wife when they were one-on-one added to conflict and made our marriage worse to the point we ended up divorced. His demeanor does not promote healing, self-analysis, or add a positive atmosphere in the counseling sessions. He appears to be concerned more with how many sessions your insurance will pay then seeing couples heal and become happy again. Just my opinion from the many times we used him thinking Courtman was a professional.

Dr. Cortman is very knowledgeable about a variety of conditions. He regularly gives presentations in the Venice, FL area and is a popular speaker. You do, however, have to follow through with the advice you get. When you do you discover that Small steps eventually equal big changes. A psychologist is mostly a guide and can’t do it for you. I found Dr Cortman to be very supportive and encouraging.

First and foremost, you have to understand his method and make sure it's something you'll be okay with. He doesn't like prescribing medication, he teaches you tools on how to handle whatever it is you're dealing with on your own, so you're not just dependent on a medication indefinitely. So if you're looking to pop pills to aimlessly get you through the day, he's not your guy. He also has you do in and out of session activities to bring more clarity on your feelings, situations, and relationships. I look forward to my visits with him because I know I always feel so much better afterwards. He's also very funny, kind, and understanding so long as you are open and honest with him. Aside from all that he cured my anxiety, I haven't felt it in years. I've grown leaps and hurdles as a person thanks to him.

This guy markets himself as a PhD and specialist, just look at the books he has co-authored (and mostly funded) on Amazon with actual PhDs’. He’s got a PsyD and years of experience, and starbadge to him, but doesn’t have any particular specialty, and I’m wondering if his experience is nearing the retirement phase of effectiveness. Here he’s listed as a specialty in schizophrenia? he doesn’t even know what’s echolia or echopraxia during our small talk in therapy. The guy is primarily paid through insurance, and he’ll sure be your paid friend and ain’t much better.
