Dr. Christopher M Fox

While visiting Dr. Fox for my annual physical a couple of weeks ago, he asked how I was feeling. I made the comment that my lower back hurts sometimes because I drive a lot every day in my work as a chaplain. He told me that it could be some arthritis since I’m over 60 and offered to give me a copied sheet of back exercises. I didn’t realize that he was going to use “split billing” and charge me not only for a physical but also for another “well visit” since he put on my chart “chronic back problems!” I didn’t know that he had charged the additional $175 office visit until I found out from my insurance company’s “Explanation of Benefits” form. I have called to dispute the additional charge with St. Luke’s and they are working on it. Dr. Fox’s nurse, Kala, told me that I signed a form saying they could treat me for any problem discovered during the physical. Seems VERY deceptive to me and I have definitely learned my lesson. In future physicals when I am asked that question, my response… must be “I am just fine” or “NO COMMENT” or else the doctor can charge $175 for an additional “visit.” UGH!!!
