Dr. Hulen requested an updated MRI (prior to any proposed treatment options); waiting for scheduling

Dr Hulen is so kind and gentle. He performed surgery on my neck and it all went smoothly. I have every bit of trust in him and would highly recommend him to anyone.

Went to Dr. Hulen because I was referred there by Beumont Hospital for numbness and weakness in legs. Dr. Hulen did an MRI which showed that I had mild spinal stenosis. When Dr. Hulen looked at the MRI he said I actually had moderate spinal stenosis due to tangible evidence of measurements of the cauda equina. I was put on medication and told to return in 6 weeks. The medication worked for a little over a week but the symptoms came back. I tried calling the office to see if I could increase the medication since I was on the lowest dose. It took him and his office 5 days to return my call. I messaged Dr. Hulen on the Beaumont messaging center another time trying to get an increase since I was still on the lowest dose of medication and I was suffering. The medication is not an opioid or anything you would get addicted to, You can tell the message was read on Beaumont's system because it is no longer in bold type. This time no response of phone call from Dr. Hulen at all. A few days… later I get a voice message from Beaumont saying my doctor needs me to set up an appointment for a procedure. At this point I had seen so many doctors I did not know what doctor or what procedure. I had to call and find out who and what procedure I was signing up for. At this point I am in the process of changing surgeons just in case I do need surgery later on down the road. When Dr. Hulen was telling me about the surgery I would eventually need, he said "I could do it with my eyes closed". Not what I want to hear from my surgeon.

This guy performed what was supposed to be a routine laminectomy about a year ago. Immediately afterwards I knew something was wrong, but Hulan, and his constituent Easton, just kept telling me the nerve needed to calm down. Months of opioids, steriods, muscle relax, injections, tests, etc. and the Beaumont bozos could not figure it out. I laid in agony for months unable to do anything and my perception was Hulan could care less - multiple telephone calls unretured. I later saw a neurosurgeon in Ann Arbor who diagnosed the problem in 15 minutes! 15 MINUTES! The diagnosis - "total failure". I was immediately wheeled over to St. Joes for corrective back surgery. This man almost destroyed my life. For any back or neck surgery, do yourself a favor - go to a neurosurgeon.

The doctor dose not believe on given patient pain medication or fill out the proper papers for your job, you are on your own if you can recover 100 % He dose not take care of you or your problems he performs the surgery and then you have to deal with the recovery and pressure to get long term disability . I work for the Hospital and I am very upset never heard of any of the other doctor that work for the same practice to treat the patients so poorly

Let me start by saying that within a 8 week span Dr. Hulen performed cervical spine surgery on both my wife and I. She had C4 through C6 done and I had C4 through C7 done. We are both very satisfied with the results and are both completely pain free. We read in a few of the reviews that Dr. Hulen can come across as overly confident and I can see how someone might think that, but to us that was a positive rather than a negative. When it came to our spines we wanted someone who was supremely confident in their skillset. He is very professional and very matter of fact. Again, we appreciated that he says it like it is. We would without a doubt recommend anyone having back issues go and meet with Dr. Hulen. He truly gave us our lives back.

Dr Hulen failed to recognize the symptoms of an infection in his patinet post op. . This required care at UM Hospital to correct.. Patient still suffers complications because of Dr Hulen's lack of knowledge in basic wound care. His medical care has seriously degraded this patient's quality of life.

Doesn't talk much, but excellent surgeon.

Professional, compassionate doctor. Had spine surgery in 2010 and Dr. Hulen changed my life.
