Dr. Cynthia Marie Sortisio, PhD

I was with dr. sortisio for quite a while, and at first she was helpful because i was able to talk to her, but once we got past surface-level issues, she was unwilling to work with me on harder topics. Her services are EXPENSIVE and so i wanted to make the most of my time and do real work, but every time I asked a question that challenged preconcieved notions of me, rather than work with me to a) explain and go through her observations or b) alter her notions given new information, she would just abruptly change the topic to something i'd established I didn't care about and was already going well. Eventually I brought up that I might have a few different specific disorders and asked what steps I could take to look into it. she told me I didn't have it without doing any kind of specific assessment with me, and when I called her out on that, she changed the topic. a few years later I was officially diagnosed with all of them.

Dr. Sortisio has taken on being an advocate for children in high conflict custody cases which doesn’t always leave the adults happy but I believe she does what is in the best interest of my child given the current reality of the broken court system. Those who are angry should be angry at the system not at her. She is very detailed oriented and keeps track of the nuisances of my ex-husband and my communication and serves as a very competent Parenting Coordinator.

Please stay away from Sortisio. She should not be a custody evaluator. She uses the MMPI-2, which was not designed for custody evaluations and should not be used for this purpose. A misinterpretation of the results could place custody of a child with a batterer, which could put the child at severe risk; additionally, for many parents, especially those who have been primary caretakers, loss of custody of their children is the most frightening thing they can imagine, short of death. Loss of such an important liberty interest should not occur because of flawed information presented to the court by anyone, including one deemed to be an expert. She is not familiar with battered women syndrome or PTSD that comes from it. Additionally, she has a track record of airing on the side of men.

Dr Sortisio is authentic and focused on her trade, not trading coin for court.

Dr. Sortisio was recommended for reunification of a divorced family. In the beginning she appeared promising, and appeared to see through the lies from the other half of the equation. She told us all she was not here to take money forever and ever, and likes to do things swiftly and quickly so she can assist more people in similar situations. There has been zero progress, so much lack of progress that with all the money paid out to lawyers, therapists, etc, treatment is coming to a halt because unfortunately, it seems like a waste of time, energy, and emotions for all involved. She initially appeared to be very much willing to listen to both parents and the children, and would say things that made us believe she saw the lies, manipulation, exaggerations, alienation, and torment the "in" parent was causing to the "out" parents relationship. She is forgetful, disorganized and responds when and if she wants to correspondence. Dr. Sortisio would recognize and acknowledge the issues… of the children in sessions with the "out" parent often, but did not address them personally with the children--for whatever reason--it might hurt their feelings therefore discrediting her suggestions or their desire to come to therapy, she wasn't sure how hard of a line to draw, their individual therapist should be addressing these issues--the list goes on of her reasonings. Dr. Sortisio was supposed to be a lifeline, and assist in bringing a family back together but instead contributed to further alienation and more trust in the parent that continues to lie, manipulate, break up marriages, and live a life of falsities. These children will have poor, unhealthy relationships going forward with any and everyone in their lives because they weren't provided with the care needed to become understanding, graceful, kind humans who are attentive listeners and willing to work hard for something instead of pitching fits so they don't have to do hard work emotionally and mentally. Dr. Sortisio has let not only in the "out" parent down, but the children and mother as well--they just don't know it yet. Please, don't take your business to her.

Cynthia Sortisio is a horrible parent coordinator and court ordered custody evaluator. She feed into my exes lies and I am exactly where I figured I would be. My ex is never around, when he said he would, as well as his parents moving to NC to help, but our young children are left with strangers. The kids are unhappy and do not understand what is going on. Please stay away from her. Only chaos will come from it.

My daughter overcame so much by seeing Dr. C. I absolutely see great progress with this therapist. I am so happy that I was able to get off her waiting list and get my daughter into her practice.

Dr. Sortisio was highly objective, is highly responsive, and does not engage in non-sense that does not affect the child. Parents that want to fight don't do well with Dr. Sortisio, and likely left several reviews stating such.

Cindy Sortisio is horrible, incredibly rude & didn't want to hear anything I (mom) had to say about the history of my family. She was forcing reconciliation with someone in my children’s life & wanted it to happen ASAP (within 6 weeks). She refused to understand social services had been in our life for over 8 years or even see the paperwork from 3 different states for proof. Social services let us down and so did Cindy Sortisio. We did not get the support, guidance or help necessary. Needless to say the reconciliation did not happen.

Dr. Sortisio is disorganized, unprofessional and not understanding. If you want a quality therapist for your teen I suggest you not waste your time, energy and money on this provider.
