Dr. Daniel Cavalcante, MD

Daniel M. Cavalcante, MD – who joined BCH’s Boulder Neurological Spine & Associates (BNSA) in March 2026 – is a board-certified neurosurgeon with fellowship training in the subspecialities of complex spine, neurosurgical oncology and functional neurosurgery. His areas of expertise include complex spine surgery, motion preserving spine surgery, and the management of traumatic injuries to the brain and spine.
“My philosophy of care centers on compassionate, individualized treatment grounded in evidence-based medicine,” says Dr. Cavalcante. “I prioritize open communication and shared decision-making, tailoring each treatment plan to align with the patient’s goals and overall well-being.”
Dr. Cavalcante utilizes a range of surgical techniques tailored to each patient, with an emphasis on optimizing outcomes and recovery. He treats a wide range of complex neurosurgical conditions, including brain and spinal tumors; acute neurotrauma; …degenerative spine disease; laminoplasty; disc replacement and herniated discs; cervical, lumbar and thoracic fusions; and thoracic decompression.
During his training, he pursued multiple subspecialty fellowships, including epilepsy and functional neurosurgery at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, plus neurosurgical oncology and complex spine at the University of Colorado Anschutz. During his third fellowship in 2020-21, Dr. Cavalcante gained advanced training in the management of complex spinal disorders, including degenerative, deformity and oncologic conditions. He is also a former Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
Dr. Cavalcante, who is fluent in English and Portuguese, is actively involved in research and has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications, with a focus on brain tumors, intracranial procedures and minimally invasive neurosurgical techniques. His work has been published in journals such as World Neurosurgery and Journal of Neuro-Oncology.
