Dr. Daniel Eytan Fast, MD

Based on my husband's experience, this doctor's self-identification as an "addiction specialist" is, simply put, a sham. Despite weekly visits for a dangerous, escalating addiction to cocaine, Dr. First never referred my husband to a 12-step or in-patient rehabilitation program. Nor did he monitor my husband's compliance with the medication he prescribed. Additionally, when I joined for one--and only one--session, Dr. Fast dismissed my devastation at my husband's frequent nighttime disappearances (to do drugs) as us merely having "communication" problems! Clearly, this doctor didn't want to call my husband out on his behavior and risk losing a weekly cash cow. Hopefully our experience will help others avoid embarking on a similar nightmare of a "therapy" path.

After recently going to someone that has helped me, I feel validated in realizing just how damaging this doctor was. I had the worst feeling of hopelessness leaving his session. Mostly the ineptitude, but his arrogance doesn't help.

He's great as a psychiatrist, now very good as a therapist, which he also does. But he's excellent as a psychiatrist. He quickly diagnosed my problem as Bipolar II mixed, with a serious Generalized Anxiety Disorder. I was highly suicidal at the time, had never been diagnosed as anything other than depressed before, but I had had a 14-month slip in AA on drugs & alcohol that changed my brain chemistry, bringing these diagnoses out. He determined I'd had them for most of my life but that following this slip my brain went into full Bipolar & Anxiety mode & I was really & totally messed-up (not his words). I required several different meds to keep me alive & away from daily thoughts & plans for suicide. He literally saved my life.

Despite solid credentials, what a disappointment! No, make that disaster. I left feeling much worse than before. Dr. Fast displayed zero understanding or compassion, and his remarks alternated judgmental/offensive and rote/one-size-fits-all. When I expressed my concerns during the session he became visibly angry and defensive. Regardless of how upset I left, he never followed up. Don't go.

I would not recommend him.
