Dr. Daniel Thompson Mcguire, MD

Dr. McGuire is fantastic. After 4 other surgeons reviewed my case, one of which scoped my knee and missed the problem completely, i felt utterly defeated . After visiting my primary care doctor to come up with another plan , his ma asked why I hadn’t gone to see Dr.McGuire at Downeast Orthopedics. I explained I had already seen one surgeon there, and felt as though it was not a good fit . She explained what was going on with her knee, and it was almost the EXACT scenario I had going on with mine . So I decided to be proactive and contacted Dr. Mcguires office directly by phone . I called and was greeted by his medical secretary Stephanie who is without a doubt THE BEST office staff I have ever dealt with , BAR NONE . She took the time to listen , let me explain my situation IN DETAIL ( and there was ALOT TO COVER, 6 YEARS WORTH OF INFO to condense into 1 call) and was professional, non judgmental and courteous. She was honest and upfront and told me it may take a little time but she… will give the doctor all of the info to review as well as the 4 page email I wrote basically BEGGING HIM to take me on as a patient . After about a week or so , I got a call back and Stephanie had said the doctor was willing to take me as a patient . I literally was almost in tears . I felt as though 6 years of frustration was about to finally get some answers . She told me I could not be seen for 3 months as he was booked solid, I agreed . In that time I still needed to drop some weight , as I knew that most likely some form of replacement may be needed for my left knee. I had already lost 50 lbs up to that point so I said ok , I’ll keep going . Finally after what seemed like forever , the appointment day FINALLY APPROACHED . I met with Dr. McGuire. He reviewed my previous op notes( which were pretty much non existent) and explained that I needed to trust him in that he would need to go back and rescope my knee himself to evaluate the condition of my knee and determine for him self what is actually happening Hesitant after the last scope failing , I agreed due to the fact that he definitely gave me a sense of seeming to be onto what he felt may be wrong more than ANY of the other 4 surgeons prior. I agreed, we set the date for w weeks later, and shook hands . 3 weeks later I arrived at st josephs in Bangor. Staff there was top notch. Once I was prepared there, dr. McGuire came in and informed us of what to expect . Performed the procedure and an hour later I was told exactly what had been the issue that had been plaguing me for 6 AGONIZING YEARS. He had found an arthritic condyle on the medial side of my femoral head , something the last surgeon should have caught when he was scoping my knee. Grade 4 . Completely down below the chondral level. Six years of shots , pt, misinformation wasted trips and wasted meds answered in 45 minutes. I was scheduled to see him in three weeks to have my stitches removed, and we discussed how the knee felt . Felt worse after the procedure which he predicted , so he told me I have two options , only one of which will truly work in my situation. So he gave me two more weeks look up open wedge high tibial osteotomy and tell me what you think because that’s what you need done to rectify the problem . I’ll see you in Two weeks, research it and if you decide that’s what you want to do to fix the issue we will proceed . Two weeks arrived and we were back at his office. He explained what had happened after my injury and why an open wedge high tibial osteotomy was the only option that would truly work in my case. I agreed and was scheduled for June 3rd of 2026. As I write this today July 15th 2026, day after my second set of X-rays, I’m partial weight bearing on crutches . I still have a ways to go in recovery, but because of Dr.McGuire I now have hope that I may now have a future that I may be able to preserve my natural joint for possibly 8 to 10 more years before needing to replace it with an entirely new knee. I

They there at that office... Everyone are so professional, kind ,understanding , knowledgeable. Always informative and ready to listen and discuss any and all issues or concerns you might have. They have never left us hanging and always reply in a timely fashion. I highly recommend this Doctor and his remarkable staff. Thank you for the opportunity to share our experiences.

Dr. McGuire is such an amazing doctor! Professional, down to earth and so very knowledgeable. I had never had any type of surgery and he recently fixed my meniscus tears and tibial osteotomy. He walked me through the whole process and answered all of my many questions I had. I was even able to text him post surgery with any questions I had. I highly recommend his services!

Dr McGuire is AMAZING!!!!! He is so pleasant, real, down to earth, kind, not pushy, respectful, he cares!! I would recommend anyone to see him for their orthopedic Dr, besides being a great Dr, outside of that, he is a really nice man. I am totally impressed

Dr. McGuire has done serious surgeries on both my knees. All phases of the procedure and the follow up care were done professionally and with attention to my pain control and the physical therapy. What a great team!

Dr McGuire makes every appointment pleasant w his exceptional bedside manor. I am very confident in his skills after having several procedures w him. I have and would recommend Dr McGuire to anyone as I hold him and all his staff in very high regard.

I just had a follow up appointment. He has a great bed size manner. He is very knowledgeable knee dr. He treats me with respect. He always explains what he is doing and what has to happen next.

Having experienced a near death, extremely traumatic gall bladder surgery 7 years ago, (trauma that was preventable), I've had strong reservations about subjecting myself to the risk of any kind of future surgery. But I incurred a knee injury that cannot heal on its own and that will only continue to decrease my comfort and mobility over time. I was referred to Dr. Maguire for a surgical consult to see what can be done. I came away feeling extremely confident that he is the right surgeon to repair the damage to my knee! He took all the time I needed, and assured me of my safety in his and surgical staff's hands. He listened, and understood. I would highly recommend Dr. McGuire not only for his technical expertise as a surgeon, but also for his compassionate and kind demeanor. I can't say how much I appreciated that.

Dr. Mcquire is awesome always in a positive mood always listens and gives the best advice from his perspective, it felt like he was always there for me even though I was at home I could text him if I was running out of meds.
