Dr. Daphne Jones Artis, PhD

Unfortunately, our experience with Dr. Artis was not a pleasant one. We went for my 8 year old that was diagnosed with ADHD and has difficulty managing his emotions. We went through extensive testing to get this diagnosis and within 30 minutes she said this kid does not have ADHD. She also yelled at both his dad and I. She belittled us in front of our child and put him in a situation to answer questions about both parents in front of us. My son was so uncomfortable. My son said how does she expect me to be polite when she wasn't polite herself? The second time we went my son was hiding from her playing hide and seek before we even went inside. He wanted to be silly and say good when she stepped out. She told him if he didn't get out from the hiding spot that he would be punished! She yelled at me that allowing him to do that was wrong. She continued to say he needs to obey and sit on timeout doing nothing for 45 minutes. That was the last time we saw her. That was enough for me to see… she wasn't a good fit for us. She made my son feel like it was wrong to play. He wasn't being defiant or rude he was just playing. I was trying to find someone that would help him feel safe and she did the complete opposite. My son is scared now to see another therapist after that experience. I'm appalled that this lady has been "helping" people for 20 years. Her methods are so outdated. You don't speak to parents and kids that way. I myself have been through school for Early Child development and have ran my school for years. Never, ever have I heard of any her methods to be discussed in my education. I truly hope she opens her eyes to see that this just isn't the way. We are truly hurt by this experience.

In our brief meeting, Daphne Artis showed herself to be unprofessional, impatient, and needlessly hostile. I scheduled an initial session regarding my psychological conditions. I asked my husband to come along for the first session, for support and to provide further insight and detail. My previous therapist had no problems with this. As we were trying to explain this to Daphne Artis, she abruptly became upset and told my husband to stay out of the session. As we kept on trying to politely tell her that I consent to my husband being with us, she kept on cutting us off and continued to speak to us quite angrily. After my husband finally explained to her that I wanted him there, she replied angrily, “Well, I didn’t know that!” Well Daphne, you jumped to conclusions and didn’t really give us a chance to inform you. We left immediately. I am shocked that a mental health professional would have such difficulty controlling her emotions.
