Dr. Darl Kirk Vandevender, MD

Dr. Darl K Vandevender did excellent reconstructive surgery on my left hand. I was in a rollover car accident Dec. 25, 1996 and was transferred to Loyola Hospital because he accepted me as a patient. I had several surgeries thru out my stay at Loyola and I am truly blessed because of the excellent care I was given by him. I will never forget it. I went back to school and graduated in 2011 as a CNA and in 2017 from LVN/LPN school. I am a nurse now and I thank God every day that I can now give back because of his skill as a surgeon. I had breast cancer surgery, an Oncoplasty. When I looked at my breast I was amazed. They are still perfect after 3 years. He's very concerned and interested in his patients giving us the best care possible. I love his work

seemed rude, didn't look at me while talking to me or my husband. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. He had a medical student see me first who pleasant. Then a surgical resident who was less pleasant, but basically ok. Then He came in, and I felt that I should kneel at his feet. That was the first impression that I got of him, not friendly or concerned about me as a person or patient.

Top surgeon, excellent bed side manner. He worked closely with ENT and removed all cancer.

My husband had a surgery for skin cancer at Loyola with Dr. Vandevender. We both less than impressed with the out come. When we had our consultation the Dr. and an associate told us what the lesions were. It was the cancer again. When he had his surgery, we left the hospital with blood oozing out of the incisions and had blood all over his head, face and neck that had not been cleaned up. We left the hospital looking like someone had beaten him about the head with a baseball bat. We tried to explain to him that he would need some kind of pain medication and after blowing us off on the subject sent us home with nothing. Told him to take ibuprophen. Well that simply didn't work. We had been through this surgery once and new what we were talking about. Had to call for pain meds. He called in a script and had to call him back for another one. Wouldn't recommend this Dr. to anyone.

He is a very nice man and a wonderful Doctor but continues to cancel appointment and procedures that have been scheduled out for months ahead of time. Makes thinkgs difficult when you have people taking time off work to get you there.

I have been a patient for a few years now. My surgery is very invasive and i have repeat appointments. I am not sure that the surgery is "working" but I sure know he is a truly nice man. His staff is very freindly- It is a bit hard to get a hold of an actual person to schedule or ask questions to but for the most part it's worth the run a round. The wait time varies- Sometimes I am in a room after 30 minutes but sometimes it's more like over an hour. I will say they are never really "on time". I have never been lucky enough to get in a room before a half hour but most offices are the same.
