Dr. David Scott Bechtel, MD

EXCELLENT!!!

1) Dr. Bechtel left a phone message on my answering machine telling me that I had malignant melanoma and should contact their office to obtain a referral for an oncologist. This is certainly not how I would have preferred to receive such notification. Additionally, my children could have accessed the phone message before I did. 2) I had to change my blood pressure medication and they put me on lisinopril. I developed a dry cough. It took multiple visits over four months before they determined the cough stemmed from the new blood pressure medication. I have to take a hit here too, but come on! They are the medical professionals. 3) I gained 9 lbs. over the course of one year. I am over 55 years old. They wanted to put me on weight-loss medication. I said that I believed I could lose the weight. I was told, "I don't think you can." I have found Dr. Bechtel to be sarcastic and derisive. I am glad I left the practice.

I think Dr. Bechtel is a good doctor, but the practice as a whole has some issues. Because of a mix-up in contact info, they didn't give me time to respond to a letter and cut me off of a medication that needed weaning off of. I was left to face possibly a weekend of misery until luckily the pharmacy gave me some to hold me over. When I called on Monday, they insisted I be seen that day before calling in a refill. It's not like this was a narcotic drug either. Very disappointed. This practice wants you to be seen more than once a year, even if you are perfectly healthy! They wouldn't even call in a script for pink eye over the phone, even knowing I work in a school and the school nurse had verified that's what I had.

Our experience with Dr. Bechtel over a number of years is that he is very professional, knowledgable and caring. He really listens to his patients. One of the best doctors I have come across in 50 years. His staff is professional and caring, and courteous.
