Dr. David J. Engel, MD

Dr. Engel is a wonderful doctor. He is very responsive, accessible, and reliable. He returns calls and messages within minutes! Recently I had some heart issues while I was in Europe, and he and I texted to resolve the issues until I returned home. I feel very fortunate that he is my doctor.

Dr. Engel is a great doctor who I have known for a pretty long time. He was referred to me when my previous doctor had a baby and was not practicing cardiology for the time being. Dr. Engel was and still is a good match for me as a patient. He helped me in the worst of times before I had my open heart surgery and even now afterwards. He knows how to help patients embrace vulnerability because he is a very humble doctor who embraces his own vulnerability. He does not realize how much caring he has and the things he does to help his patients like myself. I highly recommend if you are considering seeing a cardiologist in your life due to your support needs, that you see Dr. Engel. He listens, he cares, and he is serious enough to help create the best Quality of Life you can have for yourself since that is what he does for me.

I've gone to David Engel for over 10 years, so I'm well-qualified to review him. Sad to say, his attitude and concern for patients has taken a 180 degree turn for the bad. He has become a mean-spirited, uncaring doctor, with zero follow through on important issues. After referring me to a colleague to address an injury that initially impacted my heart and continues to cause severe pain, he failed to follow up with that doctor - or help me find another specialist - when informed his colleague wouldn't take Obamacare or Medicaid (despite being listed as a provider). On top of this, Engel had the gall to place false information in my medical record, and refused to make the correction when called to his attention. Don't expect return calls, either, because you won't get any. Unfortunately, David Engel sees himself as a God who believes he is above patients. I'm highly disappointed and disgusted.

Marginal, rushed appointment was given with seeming irritation as questions were asked. Absolutely no return phone calls when important issues came up -- including an apparent AFib or tacardic episode last year. There needs to be a much higher regard for patients--and consideration for us as human beings.

Dr, David Engel is a fine cardiologist. Always interested in patients health and well being. I am lucky to have him as my doctor.

Dr Engel was my husband's doctor at a difficult time of his illness,with the help and knowledge of Dr engel he found comfort and understanding.Dr Engel is now my Dr,I trust him and respect his diagnosis completely,grateful for his compassion

My late mother was fortunate to be recommended several excellent specialists, in several fields, but held Dr. Engel in especially high regard on all dimensions: technical knowledge, being a good listener, patience, ability and willingness to explain things clearly to the layperson, courtesy and regard for patients as people, accessibility and follow-up. Office appointments (she saw him in midtown) were 20-30 minutes long, to allow for thoroughness. The efficient lab at Columbia Doctors Midtown, with short waits and courteous staff, was another big plus. From my experiences accompanying my mother to appointments and speaking to Dr. Engel on the phone about his findings and recommendations, I concur in all regards regarding his excellence. So does a family friend who also accompanied her into consultations. The best of the best, indeed.

An outstanding cardiologist: diagnosis, treatment, and friendliness. In addition, he was truly interested and gave me advice on my non-cardiac medical problems and concerns,. He personally telephoned me one day after seeing him, to give me the results of my lab tests (cardiac and non-cardiac).
