Dr. David Michael Mckalip, MD

Absolutely worst doctor you could imagine. In one appointment discussed one thing, in follow up appointment discussed completely the opposite (and of course denied ever saying it). When issues of concern were raised, we were told that it was not his problem. In a nut shell stated that if we wanted better care, we should get better insurance. I would not have this man touch my worst enemy. DO NOT GO TO HIM.

Dr. McKalip and his staff recently cared for my 85 yo mother. She received outstanding care!

"Dr. McKalip takes time to evaluate you and come up with the best plan for your care that you understand. You will have all your questions answered and will never feel rushed or confused!" That is the title from his website and my experience was completely the opposite. He seemed very rushed and after telling me my MRI/X-rays came back just fine told me I have arthritis in my lower back. Recommended exercise and physical therapy. How about tell me how and why I have arthritis and what other options are available to me as physical therapy and exercise has not worked thus far. This Dr is very nonchalant and condescending in his conversation and diagnosis. He may be a great surgeon but if you need someone who cares to help and understand why you have neck and back pain go to someone else as this guy is not it. His office staff is very pleasant though which makes the extremely high co-payment somewhat worthy. One other positive is the wait is not long and you are seen within 15… minutes of arrival. This is from a guy who wants to represent the people of St Petersburg as a city councilman and makes fun of our President via email and cowardly issues a no comment on the matter. Do yourself a favor and find someone who cares about your condition and your time while offering explanations for why you are in pain.

I had a lumbar fusion. The screws which held the hardware within 2 years broke. the doctor was very pompous and had a horrible bad side manner

I strongly encourage you to not visit Dr. McKalip. A close relative was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer that spread to her brain. The Dr. did not answer all of our questions about the range of options available. He instead stormed out of the room, slamming the door and causing my relative to burst into tears. He should be ashamed of himself and is a disgrace to the medical profession.

I am very lucky that I came across Dr. McKalip's practice. He literally saved my life. I would and have recommended him to everyone I know.

It isnt easy going to see a neurosurgeon before brain surgery but Dr. McKalip put me to ease. I didnt even have to ask many questions because he took the time to go through everything with me. He sat with me and explained all the details. He truly cared and made me so comfortable. I knew I was in good hands.
