Dr. David S Saffan, MD

Am using this media to say a big thank you to Dr. David Saffan which God has used to had my cute triplets. Thank you Dr. Saffan for all your word of encouragement, all options before and after pregnancy. I will forever be grateful for all you've done to bring these amazing cutetriplets into the world. I officially announce you as their "GOD FATHER". God will continue to use you to bring more miracles to the world

Dr Safan was very kind, professional and very clear about our options and probabilities. We also loved his nurse Danielle!! All appointments started in a timely fashion and, in general, we found the staff to be friendly and competent. We will be forever grateful to Dr Safan and the whole SGF team from helping us bring our miracle baby boy to this world!!

Dr. Saffan blends superior medical knowledge with compassion. He helped us understand our infertility problems and have our first baby without needing any treatment. Then when we did need IVF he was right there for us - and was able to help us get pregnant with our second child, for which we are truly grateful.

Dr. Saffan is the best. I will forever be grateful to him for my beautiful son, my current pregnancy, and for his compassion during rough patches in our journey. Dr. Saffan is beyond knowledgeable, patient, kind and has a great sense of humor. He always took time to answer our questions and talk through options with us. He never made us feel rushed or tried to sway us in one direction or the other. He was always honest about outcomes, but supportive of our choices. I cannot recommend Dr. Saffan and the Annandale office enough.

Dr. Saffan seemed to care but had occasions to show it since he was surrounded by an totally incompetent staff. You barely see him or hear from him but you do have to deal with the nurses and finance team who treat you like livestock. It's humiliating and horrible. If you try to take any issues with the staff to Dr. Saffan they fall on deaf ears. There are enough women pining to be patients he does not have to reprimand his staff or show respect for your concerns. You can see he truly wants to get your treatment right but he cannot rise above the catty nursing staff or poor office management.

I loved Dr. Saffan, but his staff was so awful, it was scary. His nurse, Jill, was far from professional and failed on many occasions to answer questions. Your given a very complex schedule of medication and appointments, and handed to the nursing staff. They handle everything after you see the Dr. once, so the Dr. is of little or no impact. On many occasions I asked Jill questions and she would answer, maybe, one in three. That is not a good ratio for Fertility treatment. If you ask, what dosage of what meds you are supposed to take for the next few days and all she gives you is the dosage and not the meds, that is bad. I should not be the one coaxing information about my treatment out of the nurse. When I told her I was not happy with her performance, she began to cry. She was the one crying when I was the patient undergoing fertility treatment.. what sense does that make? The two women who work the front desk are the only women who smile in the entire place, that must be… due to the proximity to the door.

Dr. Saffan has a rough bedside manner when you first meet him but he warms up during the course of the first meeting. And it does not matter much since you will hardly see him again. You will be handed off to the nursing staff and then finance team. The finance team will appear totally put together when you do your first consult, but it quickly falls apart after that, and if you need a pre approval.. forget it in a timely manner. The nursing staff is very out of touch with the patients. You will arrive, do blood work, get a sonogram (and if you don't know this routine on your first trip, they look at you like your a moron) and then you are dismissed. You may or may not see a nurse. You will get a call later maybe from your nurse or from another nurse going over the details. Some will answer questions, and some will just say, 'call your nurse tomorrow'. The IUI process can be demanding, but the procedures at Shady Grove make it stressful. I guess stress is not a factor for a… woman going through fertility treatments. If you ever do make to to see Dr. Saffan and he does remember you from all the herds of other women, he really is a nice guy who knows what he is doing..

I absolutely loved Dr. Saffan. I didn't have success at Shady Grove, but I felt like I had other immune issues that they don't really treat so I had to move on. Other than that, the nurses at the Annandale office were so wonderful. Our nurse Sonia P. was so great. She answered all my calls really quickly and was always thorough and caring. I wish they would've been more open to immune stuff though.

Dr. Saffan was not my primary doctor, but he saw me on most of my visits. He is great and very caring.
