Dr. Dianne Soukfun Cheung, MD

I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Dianne Cheung based on a referral from my primary care physician at UCLA. Unfortunately, her office cancelled and rescheduled the appointment twice without offering any explanation or asking me for my input. Each time, I received a brief and impersonal message simply informing me of the change. On the day of the rescheduled appointment, after waiting six months and experiencing two unclarified cancellations, I made the drive from Westwood to Torrance. Despite allowing ample time, I was significantly delayed by unanticipated traffic on the 405 Freeway. I immediately called the contact number provided to notify UCLA Health of the delay. I was told my message would be noted. After a 2.5-hour drive, I arrived 30 minutes late—having notified the office in advance—only to be told Dr. Cheung would not see me. The front desk staff informed me that the individual who said it was acceptable for me to arrive late was not part of their office but rather UCLA… Health’s general support staff. While I respect the need for boundaries around scheduling, I expressed that this internal communication breakdown should not result in a patient being penalized—especially after prior cancellations on your part. There was only one patient in the waiting area, yet I was told Dr. Cheung was unavailable and that the next available appointment would be five months later. This experience left me deeply disappointed—not only in the lack of accountability, but in the absence of basic compassion and consideration for a patient’s effort, time, and well-being. Dr. Cheung, if this message reaches you, I sincerely invite you to reflect on whether these actions align with the values of empathy and service that guide the medical profession.

After visiting several Endocrinologists for my Hashi's throughout the years, upon meeting with Dr. Cheung, I knew I had finally found "The One". She is supremely well-informed. very thorough and always goes the extra mile. For example, she does her own in-house ultrasounds so that she can see what's going on for herself, whereas my previous doctors always outsourced the tests and interpretation. She also brings up things I haven't even thought to ask, for example, going gluten-free, taking vitamin D, things I had MEANT to ask but forgotten. Dr. Cheung is amazing. She even called me personally to deliver recent test results, whereas most doctors would simply have their staff call. These are just a few examples of what makes Dr. Cheung so special.

Overworked to the point of misdiagnosis. Followed up with 2 other doctors who confirmed her wrong diagnosis.

Dr. was rude and short. She was not very empathic.

It is interesting that most of the positive reviews were from 2010 or so. Maybe from when she first started and had better bedside manners. I saw Dr Cheung a couple of months ago and she ordered blood work and asked me to call back the next day. I did but I did not hear back from her. I then called again the following day and left a second message. A few hours later her staff called to say the doctor had left for the weekend and would call me back on Monday. I think that is poor communication.

She may be a great doctor for other metabolic disorders, but I found her very lacking in my hypothyroidism case. I saw her for more than a year, and my symptoms never improved. Every office visit, I told her I felt the same, which was not horrible, just tired. She prescribed several medications, but the only one I liked was Armour. She strongly advised against it, and said my labs were below what they should be so she prescribed something else instead of lowering the dosage. Once my labs stabilized, I thought my symptoms would improve, but they never did. I started to get irregular heartbeats, but she just dismissed that. Her office staff is not very good either. I came in for an appointment, and they told me that I didn't have an appointment. I brought out the appointment card which stated that I did, in fact, have an appointment, and they "squeezed me in." I, also, asked them to fax the pharmacy a prescription. It took five days, with me calling every other day, for the… pharmacy to finally get it. There was, also, a problem with the billing. After they changed to UCLA, the price went up $40 for an office visit without them letting me know that there would be a price increase. I definitely did not have a good experience with Dr. Cheung.

Definitely would not see her again.

Dr. Cheung is caring, thorough & diagnosed my health issues immediately. I have recommended her to several friends & will continue to.

Genuine concern for my overall progress. Kind & caring doctor who is up on the latest in treatment. I would highly recommend her.

She is very helpful, and knowledgeable. She has my medications perfect, and I am doing much better since I started with her. Staff is fabulous!
