Dr. Douglas Newton Calhoun, MD

Having grown up in Knoxville, Dr. Calhoun is excited to be bringing his family back home to East Tennessee to begin his orthopedic practice at KOC.

After doing both his undergraduate and graduate work at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Dr. Calhoun earned his MD, graduating with high honors, from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. In medical school he served as a peer counselor for first and second year medical students and was elected into the Alpha Omicron Alpha honor society. Dr. Calhoun stayed in Memphis to do an internship in general surgery, a residency in orthopedic surgery, and a Millford Hand Fellowship in orthopedic hand surgery at the Campbell Clinic.

One of Dr. Calhoun’s recent academic accomplishments includes co-authoring a chapter in a physical therapy textbook on common hand surgical procedures.

Dr. Calhoun has been married to Cindy, also a Knoxville native, for eleven years. Together they have three children: 6-year old twin boys …and a two-year old son. Dr. Calhoun enjoys spending time with his family and children and stays especially active in church and children’s activities. In his spare time, his hobbies include golf, tennis, and water sports.
