Dr. Douglas Pauli Hutcheson, MD

He was randomly assigned to me when I called Virginia Women’s Center about a persistent abdominal pain. The appointment lasted only a few minutes but was so traumatizing it still haunts me to this day. He spent more time insulting my husband who wasn’t even there (he asked what my husband’s occupation was, I answered, then he said “oh so he’s not that smart”). He dismissed the reason I came in for, ordered to change my BCP for no reason, all while being the most condescending person I have met.

AWFUL!!!!! Do NOT go to him. I went in for possible endometriosis. I have been having a lot of abdominal pain, and he totally dismissed my concerns and tried to pressure me into taking birth control the whole visit. He kept talking like I was in the wrong for wanting another baby. He was super rude, he had no compassion, he never once smiled, and rushed me out the door and said he couldn’t help me. He didn’t even give advice. Definitely save your time and find a doctor who actually makes you feel heard and seen.

At the time I saw Dr. Hutcheson, I was a 36 year old woman who had undergone a tubal ligation REVERSAL. We had been trying to conceive for a while and when we finally did, unfortunately, we had a miscarriage. When I saw Dr. Hutcheson I had just experienced the miscarriage a week before and I was seeing him for a follow up because my doctor was not available. I am sure you all can imagine how difficult this time was for me. Not only did Dr. Hutcheson show no concern, care, or condolences, he talked over me and acted cold and heartless. He tried to pressure me into taking birth control countless times during this visit. Why would I want to take birth control after undergoing a tubal ligation reversal? He repeatedly tried to sell me on several different birth controls even after I refused them several times, all while I am morning the loss of a child I had been trying to conceive for a long time. I honestly felt that he had some type of agenda by the end of the visit. I am not sure… if he gets a kick back when prescribing birth control or if he felt that a 36 year old woman should not be trying to conceive. His bed side manner is non-existent, he does not care about his patients, and he does not listen to your concerns.

18 years ago I had a pinhole leak and Dr. Hutcheson was on call. I was seeing another doctor at the time but he was excellent He admitted me and took measures to keep me from going into full labor for about 2 weeks and he then delivered my son and took extra measures to ensure my sons health. During the time before my sons birth he explained everything that was going to happen and what could happen. He did everything to make sure my son would not come too early and the care I received was the best. My son just had his 18th birthday. Thanks Dr. Hutcheson!

I am a new patient of Dr. Hutcheson's. I came to him initially for a second opinion and to take over my care. Referred by a good friend of mine who has been treating with him for years and loves him. Recently, I came to his office with a problem I felt may be a side effect to medication he put me on for another condition. Never once did he ask any questions about my recent problem, only gave me a speech unrelated to the current problem, offered a blood test and basically washed his hands of it. To me this shows that he really didn't care why I had come into the office to begin with. I thought doctor's were supposed to at least "act" like they care about their patient's physical problems. Ask a few questions about your problems and then send to to another specialist if need be. Am I expecting too much?
