Dr. Blake Gammell Welling, MD

Dr. Welling is one of the most amazing Eral surgeons I have ever talked to. I had an immediate emergency problem that I didn’t know about and he took me right in and said let’s get you fixed up now I went in for the surgery and a day later, I was home. He is fantastic. His bedside manner and his humor is also unbelievable. My dad had had a brain problem a year ago and the previous neurosurgeons wouldn’t even talk to him so I know how neurosurgeons can be but Dr. Welling is not that way he’s kind, caring and compassionate. He is fantastic. He saved my life.

My 88 year old Mother-in-Law was diagnosed with a brain tumor. You know what most neurosurgeons would say about performing a non-emergency surgery on a 88 year old's brain: No! Absolutely not! Not a chance. But not Dr. Welling. He embraced her case. He absolutely put the entire family at peace with a previously terrifying option. A surgical option. He was direct, honest, positive and caring. We all assumed that this brain tumor would be her end. Dr. Welling performed the surgery on Jan 4, 2019, and 2 days later she left the hospital in better shape than we had witnessed for months! She recovered in a skilled nursing unit for a week and went home to live, alone, with no needed assistance. His surgical skill was obvious. But, more important, was the genuine warmth and caring he showed in interacting with the patient and family prior to and after the procedure. I have a bit of experience with neurosurgeons in my own past. They are usually (and rightfully) known as cold-hearted… egotists. Ask anyone that has ever worked around one. This guy is the exact opposite of that kind.

Dr Welling literally saved my life. I had a very large subdural hematoma. He got me into surgery and completely fixed it. I can’t thank him enough

My husband and I have both been treated by Dr. Welling....my husband for a shattered disc from a fall off of a zip line. I had a fusion due to arthritis. Both of us loved him and thought he did an excellent job and his bedside manner was warm and friendly. Fast forward 6 years......I liked Dr. Welling so much that I referred my older sister to him. She had her MRI and referrals and made her appointment. Dr. Welling came into the examination room and looked at her MRI and said she needed work on her neck. He asked her who she'd seen previously and she told him Dr Reichman in Provo and his demeanor immediately changed. He told her that he wouldn't help her and told her to go back to Reichman. She left in tears because she is in so much pain and felt like there was no hope. I am very disappointed in Dr Wellling. I thought my sister would be treated with care, compassion and courtesy - what happened to his oath to treat the ill to the best on his ability....I think his ego got… in the way. To be fair, I think Dr. Welling is a wonderful and skilled Dr. and helps a lot of people, including me and my husband. However my sister did not deserve to be treated the way she was.

Dr Welling really knows his business! Excellent care, with terrific beside manner. Always willing to discuss with patient and family treatment as well as questions we may have had. Highly recommend! Thank you so much, Dr Welling!

Dr. Welling told me that because I didn't have major nerve pressure that he was not willing to do ANYTHING to help me, and right after indicated with his body language that he wanted me out of his office, implying that he doesn't care in the least if I have to spend the rest of my life with heavy pain and episodes of weakness in my legs. I didn't think that I did anything to upset him before that. After being treated that way, I don't see how I could possibly trust him no matter how much he knows about neurosurgery.

In 2005, Dr. Blake Welling saved me from becoming a paraplegic. On our first visit, he told me I needed surgery right away, fitted me with a cervical collar and rearranged his surgery schedule to get me "fixed" quickly. Throughout the process he was very direct and explained things well. On the day after surgery, I was able to get sustained sleep without tingling in my arms and legs. Since the surgery, all my symptoms have disappeared and never recurred. Yes, I have some loss of range of motion but it is a small price to pay. I am thankful and great full for being lucky enough to be treated by Dr. Blake Welling.

Front Desk Staff is extremly rude. Made me wait over a year to get seen telling me even after I had talked to the dr, that he couldn't help me. Don't ever say Herrington Rod. Long Story short, once I got in to see the doctor, he was GREAT and got me fixed and I am feeling better than I have in decades!!!

I was so disapointed with my visit with Dr. Welling. I waited almost a month for an appointment only to see him for 5 minutes. I have pain in my lower back and his diagnosis was "There is nothing I can do for you" and left me sitting in the examination room. No treatment plans if there are any, no pain meds or discussison of next steps. I would never recommend this doctor.

Dr. Welling recently performed a L1L2 microdiscectomy on me and all I can tell you is he is the best. He fully explained everything that was going to happen and I felt he truely cares about his patient. Everything went well with the surgery and he continually checked in on me to make sure I was feeling better. I don't think I could have asked or received a better doctor and I am so happy to have had Dr. Welling as my surgeon. His staff is extremely kind and caring. I am thankful for everything they did for me. I hope that I don't have anymore back problems in the future but if I did I would absolutely return to Dr. Welling because he is the best.
