Dr. Lee Alan Klombers, MD

I'm not going to say that Dr Klombers doesn't know his stuff; He does...in excess. He is clearly one of, if not the best eye doctor in the area. That being said, it seems to have gone to his head. Klombers has no bedside manner and comes off as condescending. He is passive aggressive, and despite that my child is his patient and not myself, treats and talks to adults like children. He interrupts conversation and if you don't have or don't remember information that he needs or wants, he makes you feel like crap for it. My child is starting patching, and despite improvement in his eyesight in his bad eye, Klombers decided that it wasn't enough and wants patching to be done for half the day during the week (because of school) and virtually all weekend. This seems excessive and I will be getting a second opinion from somebody. Especially since I had the exact problems as my kid at his age, I can tell this is extreme. Only go to him if you want to feel like less of a patient but… more of a school child. He WILL fix you up, but at an emotional cost. I wish I was being dramatic.

Meticulous, excellent care

My perception was that Dr. Klombers was amicable and confident in my initial consultation and he took the time to explain what a initial Botox injection does for my eye bluffer spasms, repeatedly downplaying complications. But the injection he administered did not go well for me. For the first week of intense headaches, tightness, and most dangerously double vision ensued so I contacted his office requesting a phone call to discuss it with him. After two days, I was told that Dr. Klombers rarely calls patients and insisted I would need to come in for there to be communication with him. My husband had to take time off from work in order to drive me to his office because the double vision was so bad and he also accompanied me into the doctors office for the follow up examination. Dr Klombers was defensive and condescending, questioning me like I was a child, and patronizing me with his commentary throughout the course of the follow up. My husband was indignant and surprised. It… was clear that the injection caused a variety of uncommon issues that were clearly affecting my vision and quality of life. Dr. Klombers made no attempt of an apology for the inconvenience or gesture of empathy for the legitimate situation or physical suffering. He made it clear that there was certainly no implication that he was responsible on any level for the circumstances. At the time of posting this review, almost four weeks since injection, I am still unable to wear contacts comfortably, need to take gel eye drops often, and suffer eye fatigue, and can not drive at night. I get the feeling Dr. Klombers is MORE than confident in his abilities but when rare complications arise, he has no idea how to deal with the soft skills necessary to guide a new patient through an unusual medical situation. His office also implied that he was one of only a few specialists who provide injections for my condition; however, after a cursory investigation online, there are multiple individuals who can perform the procedure I need. Dr. Klombers is not the only game in town.

I thought he was a bit rough but hoped for good news. I said I came to get a second opinion but he said he couldn't give me one bc it was the first time seeing him. I had seen another doctor who gave me his opinion and I was going to get a second opinion. So, semantics?? When I said I had seen Dr. Singman, he said some really negative things about him. After my visit, he said nothing was wrong with my vision. To this day, I'm still having issues and am on to my 3rd opinion, or 1st if you talk to Klombers. Smh

He is fantastic! He is awesome with my special needs son.

We've been seeing Dr. Klombers since my son was just a little over a year old. My son has Down Syndrome and needed eye surgery. My son is now almost 20 years old and we will always return to Dr. Klombers even though he is a distance from our home. He is simply the best.

Dr Klombers has a soft spoken, caring approach with my son (who is very shy). Even after he at times would 'shut down' for the nurses, Dr Klombers could come in and get him to do the exercises needed to evaluate him. Even through surgery, insurance issues, etc, Dr Klombers worked to make sure my son got the very best treatment for his eyes. We see him every three months and have had to switch locations (due to an insurance logistics issues) but I would follow him most anywhere to continue having my son's eyes in his care! I saw some others have rated his promptness low and I admit there have been some times waiting but on each of those accounts it was due to an emergency etc. He performs surgery and I'm sure there are time when unexpected things arise.

Stated nothing to do for head injury/vision difficulties other than bifocals ("there are ne exercises, the brain is not a muscle"?!). Doctor at John's Hopkins (Singman) compassionately told me otherwise and recommended that I begin vision therapy to get my brain in line with what my eyes are seeing. The jury is out on whether this will work, but at least I won't be sitting around waiting to feel OK. Dr Klombers may be good for other neuro-ophthamalogical concerns, but I can not recommend him for head injury complaints at all.

I have had Dr. Klombers as my eye doctor for 20 years now. I went to his office at a very young age due to a lazy eye. He worked with me throughout all these years and now I do not even need to wear glasses anymore. He has always been friendly and easy-going, as well as very informative. He always gave me options (such as getting a surgery to permanently correct the muscles of my eye) and tells me what he thinks is the best. I just know that I am so happy he helped me overcome my vision problem without surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Klombers.
