Dr. Michael Joseph Vickers, MD

Unable to get an appointment with Doctor doesn’t return phone calls or answer emails.

I would like warn others to not use this doctor. I saw him for three years and he gave me 14 different diagnosis. I could not walk and was using an electric wheelchair to get around. He did not care to send me for any consults at other locations such as Mayo. He said he did not know what I had but what was he supposed to do, close his practice and attend to me? He said I did not have Parkinson’s or Huntington’s Chorea. He sent me to Dr. Hussey for pain management which consisted of meeting briefly in a dank and carpet stained office to be prescribed increasingly stronger opiates and muscle relaxers. My endocrinologist in Sarasota said I looked horrible and set me up with appointment at Mayo. He said I deserved to feel better. Mayo was not sure as was the University of Miami. Finally, I saw a movement disorder specialist at USF. She said I had Parkinson’s Disease and needed a Deep Brain Stimulator. I was fast tracked at the University of Florida’s Center for Movement Disorders and… Neurorestoration for a Deep Brain Stinulator implantation. I tested out as a perfect candidate. I have idiopathic Parkinson Disease and with the DBS can walk now. This is a far cry from Dr. Vickers who told to get my affairs in orders and just sit around reading cookbooks. Basically give up. I think he is cruel in his operation of his EMG studies because the room is ice cold with nothing but an ice cold table to lie on. In state of the art hospitals which I only attend now, they get the best readings with the patients limbs warmed with warming blankets and a gentle touch. Dr. Vickers stabbed my quadriceps with the measuring needle and drew blood and bruising. When I yelped, he said, “that didn’t hurt me”. What kind of doctor talks like this? In closing, I trusted this doctor for 3 years.The pain and suffering I endured was inhumane. He never had any intention of trying help me discover what my illness was. During the period I saw him, I had jury duty come up. I asked if he could write an excusal letter due to my extreme pain. He wrote the excusal begrudgingly as if I was just trying to get out of jury duty. How unkind! I don’t know if he is just in the business to make money, but somewhere along the line he lost his humanity. I would recommend using a fine medical community in Gainesville at the University of Florida. They truly care and want to help.

The BILLING is horrible! Gave my secondary health insurance info/card to his office staff twice, & keep getting bill for that amount owing that the 2ndary ins. should pay as they have NOT billed them! Called their billing question # & go into a voice mail for an "Elizabeth" who never calls back. Wrote a letter after that . . . still NO change Got yet ANOTHER bill! Wasting MORE of my time today to write yet another letter, then am NOT trying to get them paid any more! Also going to warn others I know who go to him to be sure and check their bills VERY carefully!

Dr. Vickers is a first-class doctor. I have suffered from migraines since I was a young child and there are few doctors who have given me hope that things will get better but doctor has worked with me, listened to me, and fought for me to find a treatment plan that works. I am grateful for all of his infinite wisdom and knowledge and for never "sugar coating it" it but always giving me hope that things can, will and do improve. His "leave no stone unturned" approach to helping his patient determine the root of their problem, is extremely helpful to patients who have "run the gamut" of tests and need answers. He is a wonderful advocate for the patient and their health.

Dr. Vickers is non-intimidating and always has his patients' best interest in mind.

Brilliant neurologist! Diagnosed my condition after 20 yrs of doctors who were stumped. Very personable and puts his patients at ease. Takes his time and is compassionate. Have referred 2 people who were very pleased with him. Definitely a great physician.

I have never submitted one of these reviews, but read them often. I felt compelled to write one now however. I have not been to many specialists in my lifetime but if I do need one again I will pray for a Doctor who is as kind, attentive and has an excellent comfortable attitude and personality. I was very nervous going in and when I came out I felt better, optimistic and very happy with how it went. I would recommend him to anyone looking for a Nuero Dr. Thank You to the staff and Dr Vickers for helping me get to the bottom of things for me and making me comfortable each step of the way.

Incorrect/incomplete diagnosis, didn't seem to care about my symptoms, on last visit didn't even ask how I was feeling.

Doctor Vickers has a great bedside manner. He cares about you and takes time to understand your problems and concerns.His staff is equally good. Efficient, friendly, personable.We recommend him highly. They're great!
